Its a missed opportunity but to say the game hinged on it is way way over the top.

I tell you something, ive watched closely over the social media accounts since the start of the world cup and the only growth weve had to show for it is a several 1000 more followers on each platform. That tells you enough that our game is where it is in the market. People may like to watch it if nothing else is on but deciding to become a RL player or suddenley start following a team is a pipe dream.

Until school and club numbers improve we’re stuffed. Today was the first and only major chance for another decade where we had a shot of doing that.

Considering newbies to the sport would have no idea on the background of the teams involved I highly doubt that a win today or next week would have made a difference.

We may have had million of viewers on TV but this tournament has the most exposure our sport has ever had. Like I say only a few 1000 have decided to follow on the social media pages, that tells you how interested people actually are.

Whilst we feel this is the greatest game on earth unfortunatley the rest of the world dont. I stick by my point that its ok to watch for most if nothing else is on

We need to win a comp for the sport to grow. Simple.

Fingers crossed the women can do one better than their RU counterparts and maybe steal some of the media focus.

Remember when England rugby union side won the world cup. All we heard was this will grow the game and do wonders for rugby union with scenes never seen before.

I think you are bright enough to see all pipe dreams that never came to fruition.

The idea that England losing today will see Rugby League never recover is laughable.

The RFL and clubs need to do more than hope for England winning to attract more kids.

They are just choosing not to bother.

Ask the RFU and while you are at then Australian Rugby. Ask them what impact a world cup win did for the sport and where was the huge growth of the game they were dreaming about.

A world cup win is not some magical dust which will see Rugby League achieve huge growth. The game needs way more actions and plans to be put in place for real growth.

Its not that simple is it ? People arent just running 10000metres because mo farah won gold at the olympics or taking up curling.

Its a pipedream and quite frankly Rugby League attitude all over that winning a world cup would change the sport.

Just got back, another great game to watch.

Obviously gutted about the result but the Emirates is a great venue and it was great to hear lots of Southern accents in the ground and lots of (and I don't mean this as an insult) Union types there. All the Southerners around me were gripped by the game and commented how exciting it had been.

Once we have done the post mortem we should be paying Samoa to fly over next year and market it as a 'revenge' game.

“You are playing a game of football this afternoon but more than that you are playing for England, and more even than that, you are playing for right versus wrong. You will win because you have to win. Don’t forget that message from home. England expects every one of you to do his duty.”

Re: The World Cup : Sat Nov 12, 2022 10:06 pm
Sigh.... £85 a ticket to sit in a seat with a poor view with an annoying prick sat behind me and watch England throw it away again and again and again.

Wane has to go, if he can't get his best performance in the final game he isn't the right coach for an international side, Samoa got better as the tournament went on, as England did in the last 2 tournaments, and he has to be accountable. All the weaknesses in the team were apparent before today, and yet they were not addressed, he decided his squad and then his best team before the tournament, and they played no matter what their weaknesses, and they were exploited today. We are carrying too many players, and those that have failed before, failed again.

Less disappointed than the last 2 tournaments as I never thought we had a real chance, but after the ticket sales didn't come through we desperately needed the TV viewers to see England in the final and see them give it a good go. We need England to be good enough to make the big teams have to come over here and play the ashes, the four nations, or whatever the big tournaments will be year in and year out, because the international game is the product we can sell, and it can inspire people into the game.

The domestic game is on the slide, the clubs are fighting to cut each other out of increasingly small returns, and the quality and number of players keeps going down, our best development route seems to be NRL exports and expats coming back and improving the gaps in our squad. Winning a world cup won't solve the problems, but its harder to solve them when we fail so spectacularly.
