I remember travelling to the '85 CC final and some Hull fans on the (straight through) train had a carrier bag each full of cans. I was only 15 but a big lad and kept getting offered drinks which I declined. Last time I saw these gents they were knocking them back outside the turnstiles because they couldn't bring them in, whether they saw the match or not I dunno.

Similar thing at Doncaster for the semi-final against Wigan in 2016, Hull fans up and down for beer throughout the whole game, same thing at the magic weekend where it's basically a pee up with rugby as the side order.

That has always been the case with Wembley I have been to Wembley 28 time to see c cup and England play every time I went on train people were falling of drunk so stopped going by train and went by car instead

It's only a 30 minute drive (with free parking) and a leisurely 20 minute walk for me now to Wembley, I just don't buy tickets to sit with the riff raff if I can help it

I’d love to see it work, but if Marwan can’t energise the Salford public, I don’t see it working in Cumbria.

Has Marwan given any indication of where his fantasy club could be based yet, other than the very large 6,768 km2 area which is Cumbria.

JESUS WEPT :WALL: HOW MANY TIMES?????
£20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000.
The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.

There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :BEAT:

So then, Workington it is!

Realistically, Carlisle is an hours train ride away and I believe that there, Haven and Town is where he'll expect to see the crowds from. Last Train back to Carlisle will be 8.50pm, so I see Sunday afternoon games as his only option.
Drive from Barrow is 1hr 30 mins......So I can see him "tempting" fans up with subsidised coaches at the start......

For all his faults and of those there are many, he does seem to have fallen for the sport

People shouldn't really be using the distance and travel time as a stick to beat the concept with if they're advocating Toronto for SL.

They're discussing travel times & distances for home fans, and whether the distances involved would discourage them going to 13+ games a year and therefore the likely home attendances. Toronto is an away fan issue so I don't see your logic?

Workington is surely the most viable option. In the middle to at least try & tempt fans from Barrow & Carlisle, potentially a new stadium in the pipeline, and the encouraging attendances we've seen at the 2013 WC & 4 Nations.

Even a paltry average of 4k would be better than Salford.

Think that drive took me under an hour the other week...
