While something resembling rugby can be traced back to Ancient Greek and Roman times, the game which developed into what we now recognise as rugby union first became popular at England's Rugby School. The story (possibly untrue, but widely accepted) goes that in 1823 a student called William Webb Ellis picked the ball up during a football match and ran with it, thus inventing the basic premise of the sport.
The first official international rugby match took place in 1871, played between England and Scotland. Rugby league, a variation on the sport, was created in France in 1934.

Gutterfax - Yawnion patronising Troll Lebron James - yet another Yawnion patronising Troll, born watching the wrong sport he knows his beloved yawnion is 100 behind League so tries to talk Yawnion up and league down.
Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

Most idiotic post ever goes to Grimmy..... The way to restart should be an arm wrestle between a designated player from each side.
JESUS WEPT HOW MANY TIMES????? £20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000. The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.
There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them.
Complaint Summary: Factual inaccuracy and lazy/shoddy journalism
Full Complaint: In the article "7 Amazing Sports Invented in the UK" you incorrectly claim that " Rugby league, a variation on the sport, was created in France in 1934". This is either deliberately claimed so as to act as click bait, or was written by a 3 year old with no hint of post production editing or checking! A simple search of google would have yielded the fact that Rugby league originated in Northern England in 1895. The French Rugby League was formed on 6 April 1934, so maybe your article was written by a 3 year old French child?
