Why would they? Nothing to do with Leeds since the move was made permanent mid season last year.

And there lies the most baffling decision.
Cas had him on loan for the full season. A fee had been agreed with Leeds and a contract agreed with Hardaker and time was on Cas’ side. Given Hardaker’s history, it would have been common sense to wait until the last moment to commit to the deal. If Cas had done that Hardaker would be Leeds’ problem again.

It looks like Leeds were the ones to do some good business here

Gary Hetherington did an amazing job getting shut of the serial miscreant and actually receiving a nice tidy £150K into the bargain

I wonder if Cas have any claim against them ?

The goods were clearly "Sold as seen"

Shame really as the kid is a fantastic player,But how many chances is this that he has had up to now?
He will undoubtedly join the list of other fantastic players like Hock and Chase etc who had the world at their feet but totally screwed it all up

Whoever gets him will get a great player but it will only be a matter of time before he's turning out for Cas Panthers as his last resort

Do Cas not have the right to keep his registration i.e. What Leigh did with Chase.

I don’t know the legalities but I would think that as Cas have sacked him they also give up his registration. IIRC Leigh let chase leave on compassionate grounds to sort himself out and one of the terms of release was they kept his registration

An unbelievable phuck up from the Tigers when they had the above deal in place when they could have simply waited until the season was finished

Put the Castleford Tigers clubs brains trust into a budgie and it would fly backwards

If Cas are quite confident he'll be getting banned for two years is it worth keeping him just to try getting a fee which potentially won't evenbe that much given the risk of taking him on plus two years of inactivity playing wise.

Worth keeping a player we can never replace, or gift our rivals said player ???

I absolutely think we (Cas) have done the right thing.
Hardaker has proven time and time again that he can’t help pressing the self-destruct button.
Assault, homophobia, class A, getting hammered on England duty (plus lots of other rumoured indiscretions) - every time he says he’ll change; every time he screws up again. It’s not a matter of if he can keep himself out of trouble, but how long he can go without doing something else completely idiotic. I’m afraid he just can’t be trusted to behave himself for longer than a season or so.
Having someone like that at a club, regardless of his ability, just isn’t worth the inevitable problems he will cause. He’s no longer a kid who made a silly mistake, but a bloke in his mid-twenties who, time after time, decides to do things that damage himself and the club he is playing for.
On a personal level I worry for him if he’s banned for two years. Without the focus of professional RL (and at least the time it takes up) he’s got even less reason to keep on the straight and narrow. Indeed, you only need to bump into him in one of his favourite clubs and it’s clear that he’s still making bad decisions. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he was in prison by the end of his suspension. I hope organisations such as State if Mind can support him, but to be honest there is only so much that can be done for someone so intent on ruining their life.
On a personal level I hope he can sort himself out, but past experience suggests this is very unlikely. As a Cas supporter, I’m glad he’s not going to be at my club the next time he inevitably screws up.

I've no idea how you felt when Cas signed Z.H. but many were happy to ignore his previous misdemeanors (of which there were many) as he helped Cas to their best league season ever.

Your "friends" over in Leeds told you chapter & verse what to expect, the bloke is a fool.

Regarding the £150k payment to Leeds plus his salary, maybe the increased attendances & the G.F. appearance covered the cost?

Leeds took that risk and are much better for it.

How many times have we heard that over the last few years?
Chase
Clark
Carney
Solomona
Let’s be clear - plenty of teams have won trophies without Zak Hardaker. He isn’t some kind of rugby God.

Maybe they were worried if they left it until the end of the season another team would start sniffing around him and turn his head to sign elsewhere.
