I was delighted when we signed him on loan. England’s best full back but any trouble and he’d be straight back to Leeds.
When we signed him permanently I thought a five year deal was long for a player who hadn’t gone two seasons without getting into trouble. But we were paying a fee so we didnt want him waltzing off elsewhere after a year or two.

I’m saying they are not ‘irreplaceable’ as you claim.
Particularly Hardaker. He is irreplacebale in terms of his stupidity, but certainly not irreplaceable as a player.

We only got something because he wasn't facing a lengthy ban, we still took a hit on fee when you consider his talent and we clearly strengthened a rival even to the point we allowed him to play against us.

How much do you think Cas would get for him? No one not even Wigan would be paying a fee for him with a ban upcoming. At the end of his ban? Who knows, still probably not too much and not enough to keep him around and not drawing a line under his situation.

Ignoring you comparing apples and oranges again..

As I see it we had 2 options,

Stick by him (which would have been what I did)

Or

Let him serve a ban play him for a year and look to sell him.

Releasing him for free to a direct rival is ridiculous, the most stupid decision the club has ever done in my lifetime and if rumors are to be believed it’s a big part of why Steve gill has lost his job.

Depends on what you mean by better.
If you mean someone who isn’t inevitably going to screw up then I’d suggest anyone is better than Hardaker.
This isn’t about his on-field ability. This is about his inability to keep himself out of trouble and the fact he’s always one decision away from screwing the club over through his idiotic decisions.
He’s not worth it.

Maybe he us nit getging 2years and the full 4 years. Cas just cuthing there losses. Wigan or any other club cannot sign him or train him while he is banned.
If wigan have singed him its shows they have absolutely no integrity what so ever.

Saints haven’t done bad, they got barba.... is that a bad signing ??? After all he’s one mistake from screwing the club over.....
