JESUS WEPT HOW MANY TIMES????? £20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000. The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.
There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them.
Ah but we did get there , and were very very close to staying there as well , we were nowhere near disgraced in SL last year Its a bit like buying a lottery ticket or having a ' punt ' , you know its highly unlikely you'll win , but it does make the heart beat faster , proving you are actually alive
1. 6 Wins is a disgrace......Salford with 6 wins this year are propped up by Widnes and you were propped up by Widnes.....all three clubs have not a snowballs chance in Hell of winning SL, but they are canon fodder for those trying to reach the Holy Grail that is the safety of the Super 8's...... 2. It's not the buying of the Lottery ticket of the betting slip....it's whose money is used to buy it and the expected returns......Del spent money, Del arranged to get more money when Leigh went down, Del has spent that money and now Leigh look to be heading part time at best......I have no doubt the short term buzz of SL was great, but I am also sure that the long term damage it did will hurt for a fair few years.....like the 3k fans who haven't bothered this year.....attendances will shrink and the SL trip will fade into time.....
bit harsh that. ambitious owner, and we finally beat wigan (scoring 50 points) for the 1st time in over 30 years, and saints, warrington, & hull.
it's not our fault our ego maniac of an owner has no interest in owning a part time championship side that can only hope they make the top 4. He isn't prepared to 'cash up' on us staying full time, and having a chance of getting into SL...that's the problem.

Ah....so when you follow the egomaniac to SL it's cool, but when he dummy spits it's his fault 6 Wins v sides who made the top 8 is great.....but as I say, at what cost to the club has the drubbing of Wigan come at?

Leigh have a very nice little stadium. They deserve to be in the top 6 of the Championship. But next year, with Derek Beaumont gone, will they be in the top 6?
Of the current top 4, Toronto is likely to be promoted to Super League in 2019 and Toulouse is a possibility. That means that in 2019 either 2 clubs (London and Halifax) or 3 clubs (London, Halifax, and Toulouse) of the Championship teams will each be getting £1.25 million and Leigh will be on £200k
So Leigh will almost certainly not make the MPG, and may not make the top 6, in 2019.
Derek Beaumont just wanted the glory of Super League. Without that he is not prepared to support Leigh. He is not a real club man. He is just a glory seeker and a quitter.

There you have it folks...the verdict of Manfred Man (as he's known on TRL).....aren't we lucky he's here

I think you'll find that they will get 750K and not 1.25m. Leigh received that this year due to 750K central funding and 500k parachute payment.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, I'd rather the people running the sport put all of their effort into making the game as good as it can be for the people who are actually interested in it (heartlands supporters), instead of chasing expansion. Build from the bottom up. I'll probably say it again when we have the magic weekend being played in an empty stadium in new york and us lot watching it on tv.
As a Leigh fan of well over 50 years let me give you my version of these past few Beaumont years. Firstly it is quite enlightening to read some of the comments directed in Mr Beaumont's direction from people who hide behind a pseudonym so they cannot be identified when they vent the pent up anger on those who have at least stood up to be counted. Mr Beaumont is no different to most who write on this site, he loves the game of RL and he loves the club of the town of his birth and where he still resides. Am I angry at him, yes I am, I would gladly stand face to face with him and argue that his decision process on the appointments he made are the reasons we are were we are at this present moment, but I am also savvy enough to realise he took all those decisions for what he thought was the best way forward for the club, and backed them up with a lot of his own money, he is a fan of the club first and foremost and everything he did he did with the best of intentions albeit they backfired, there are a lot of Leigh fan's hurting at this present time, none I expect as much as Mr Beaumont is. I fully expect him to resurface as a paying fan and will see him stood in the Northstand along with all the other diehards still in attendance next season, I will make a point of thanking him for all his efforts, but I wished he had been a little more shrewd in his thinking.
