JESUS WEPT :WALL: HOW MANY TIMES?????
£20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000.
The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.

There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :BEAT:

You have a list of clauses set by the RFL that you can include in playing contracts , I don't think that's on the list

I spent many years in Sales. I had targets and if I hit these or overachieved, I was paid well and received bonus payments.....if I missed them, I would have received less pay and eventually would have been fired. The Leigh squad under performed in 2018 and not by just the 1 win either....they should have comfortably been 2nd and challenging for a spot in the MPG, but weren't and as a result, their contracts should be able to include "penalty" clauses for missing their target, because as much we love the sport, the sport is a business.

You don't need a relegation clause - you have a clause stating that the contract would be void if you fail to reach the required league position. That is no more difficult to draft and enforce than a relegation clause.

Over the years, via my job, I have been privvy to hundreds of sporting contracts. Not just in rugby league, but also union and football and I have never seen that clause. Know why? Good luck getting someone to sign a contract that could be torn up if they dont hit a certain position in the league. Its the same with the relegation clause. These are extremely rare and are usually in the form of a cut in wages, not the contract torn up.

A couple of years ago, Fax players were subject to a 10% cut in their pay across the board whether regardless of their contract position. They were given the option of leaving if they didn't want to accept the cut. IIRC no-one left. The "carrot" was to reinstate the 10% based on making top 4, which Fax did, and all the players got their 10% back, albeit as an end of season bonus.

I'm sure that there must be ways and means of adding clauses into contracts that protect the club depending on outcomes.

As I put earlier as I understand it the parachute payment was only available if it was spent , I assume that would be in the form of Leigh committing to a certain level of salary cap , so if you don't reach that level on your contracts , you don't get the money

Lebron - its no different at all to a relegation clause. In terms of drafting it would take a half decent lawyer 10 minutes. Whether you could get players to sign it or not is another matter, but if any business knowingly incurred losses dependent on a very specific outcome (league position) and did not put into effect contracts which mitigated those potential outcomes, they deserve everything they get.

As I said, I have seen hundreds of sporting contracts and not one has included this clause. Ive seen plenty of other weird and wonderful clauses though :D
