A couple of years ago, Fax players were subject to a 10% cut in their pay across the board whether regardless of their contract position. They were given the option of leaving if they didn't want to accept the cut. IIRC no-one left. The "carrot" was to reinstate the 10% based on making top 4, which Fax did, and all the players got their 10% back, albeit as an end of season bonus.

I'm sure that there must be ways and means of adding clauses into contracts that protect the club depending on outcomes.

Surely it can only be a player from Catalans. Probably the best RL side I have ever witnessed in this season's comp.

You can insert as many as you like. Its getting the player to sign it thats the problem. I wont mention names but as an example, a good few years ago a certain SL three quarter refused to sign a contract that had a wage cut if the club got relegated. His reasoning was, that he was their top try scorer that season so he was obviously pulling his weight so why should he suffer if others werent pulling their weight?

:( I spent many years in Sales. I had targets and if I hit these or overachieved, I was paid well and received bonus payments.....if I missed them, I would have received less pay and eventually would have been fired. The Leigh squad under performed in 2018 and not by just the 1 win either....they should have comfortably been 2nd and challenging for a spot in the MPG, but weren't and as a result, their contracts should be able to include "penalty" clauses for missing their target, because as much we love the sport, the sport is a business.

I don't think anyone is arguing that they shouldn't but it's (almost certainly) not allowed under the Operational Rules.

Lebron - its no different at all to a relegation clause. In terms of drafting it would take a half decent lawyer 10 minutes. Whether you could get players to sign it or not is another matter, but if any business knowingly incurred losses dependent on a very specific outcome (league position) and did not put into effect contracts which mitigated those potential outcomes, they deserve everything they get.

It may only take a half decent lawyer 10 mins to draft and players could even sign it but, it still would not be accepted by The RFL.

Again there is a list of permissible clauses that can be used in RFL sanctioned contracts

That turned out ok though cause we got a better replacement in Grady.

Anyone know what is going to happen with Fev, heard on proper sport there's an announcement in September. Probably becoming the Rhino's reserve side, or to get around any naming issues 'Gary Hetherington Rovers'

Sorry to disappoint you but rumours of Fev's imminent demise have been greatly exaggerated. There will be quite a few players leaving but plenty more coming in, including two overseas players who played in the 2017 World Cup.

Good to hear that. RL still needs the likes of Fev, Leigh, Fax and the rest of the Championship sides (incl C1) to survive and prosper.

Yup, future feeder clubs to SL. When SL becomes more multinational, the small time heritage clubs can choose to be feeder clubs or join BARLA.

Well if you want to talk small time and heritage then you can add Huddersfield, Castleford, Wakefield, Salford and Widnes to the list. We will be left with perhaps 6 independent and fully professional clubs in the UK. Is that what we really want? Frankly, I don’t.
