Toulouse for Championship in 2017, Super League in 2021!

Avignon for Championship in 2021, Super League in 2022!

The rumoured signing of Lachlan Lam with Wigan, in tandem with his father Adrian's arrival as coach, will not take place:

https://wwos.nine.com.au/nrl/nrl-the-mo ... 587d6b94fe

This is tragic for Wigan's prospects of silverware in 2019, in the context of the departure of Samuel Tomkins, John Bateman, Ryan Sutton and others. Wigan missed out on securing, even if only for one year, a dynamic attacking half back. George Williams cannot compare with Lachlan Lam's talent.

Wigan might well consider switching Morgan Escare to No 6, because otherwise there will be no fireworks in the Wigan halves.

Wigan have the advantage of O'Loughlin at Loose who has more brains and talent than the average half back. That is if they actually get him on the pitch for more than knockout games. They'll bring some kid through who'll rip it up. They always do. What happened to Josh Woods?

I am not aware that Wigan has any junior talent comparable to Lachlan Lam. They have missed out on securing a significant bonus for their attack. Quality half backs are very scarce anywhere in the world.

Obviously the Sydney Roosters are desperate to secure the young man as a replacement for Cooper Cronk, and need him to stay at the club in 2019 so that Cronk can mentor him.

Wigan might have been wise to have also taken an interest in the talented Riley Jacks, who has left the Melbourne Storm (where he played well in several NRL games but then was dropped) and who has recently signed with the Gold Coast Titans.

Next season was always gonna be a season of transition for wigan. Don't think anyone is expecting Wigan to go back to back.

So it turns out there is a way that Wigan could be more disliked.

Wigan have a very talented young fullback called Mullen who came on a few weeks ago and was slotted into the dummy half role and first pivot as cover for Leuluai and then for Powell. He looked a natural who could be shaped into anyone of a number of roles. We also have a young lad called Harry Smith who could well be a future star but he will stil be a junior next season. In the meantime we will still have the Grand Final winning halves from this year. We need to be planning for what happens when TL hangs up his boots. As for this year we have plenty of cover at fullback even if Zak crashes and burns. I am more worried by the Bateman sized hole in our defence.

No such thing as a 'transition' season IMO

How much of Lam have you seen to make that judgment? A game or two in the last World Cup, like the rest of us?

Come to that, what do you know about Wigan's 'junior talent'?
