I wish everyone would read bramleyrhino's post two or three times just to get it through some thick skulls

Mr bramleyrhino speaks a lot of sense.

You've got a very strange outlook on oversensitivity old boy. I'm not the one who seems obsessed about winning arguments and insulting strangers on the internet.

Try taking a more open and positive outlook on life. You never know, you might like it.

What a stupid reply - one Wildcats is no more stupid than Rhino's, in fact slightly better, give it a rest.

Secondly and as ever you are utterly clueless yet you speak with an arrogance way beyond your knowledge. Since turning back to Trinity it has been met by universal acclaim across the district. Merchandise sales have roughly doubled or so I'm told though I only need to look to see it.

With regards to the rebrand back to Trinity, I’d say it’s a fair point to say that a lot more time, effort, thought and planning was put into that recent rebrand than when you rebranded to the Wildcats. That’s the key part of any branding regardless of whether you go for an animal name of a traditional name.

And for all this talk of the animal names being silly, the way people are going on you’d think the names in question were The Poodles, The Honey Badgers, The Ladybirds and The Tortoises....not Rhinos, Bulls, Lions and Tigers which give off connotations such as strength, power and speed which go well in connection with sport especially ours.

I agree. It's no different to having Lions, Stags and Unicorns on country coat of arms.

I dont remember any Rhinos on the Leeds badge of old ?

Lions have had their place on the English "crest" for several hundreds of years.
Having said that , it's up to each club to maximise it's own potential, accross all revenue streams and if having an animal on your clubs badge helps, then so be it.

I do like a proper name though

No they wasn’t but so what? Tradition is good and all but also moving with the times is pretty important too. It was tradition for Hull and Saints to play at The Boulevard and Knowsley Road, but they moved with the times and moved on.

What constitutes a “proper name”, that it’s old? People say they’re glad they don’t have an animal name.As an atheist I’m glad and wouldn’t be interested in having a name that came from the church and having a stylised flower for a crest.

You cant change where you come from and looking into the history of where "Trinitiy" came from always causes a wry smile.
I cant imagine too many religious organisations wanting to set up a RL side to increase membership these days.
Equally I'm not sure it worked in 1873 either but, at least the club is still going, which is a miracle in itself

The Mansfield Honey Badgers take offence to this remark. I played American Football at university, some of the nicknames in Britain are incredibly bad; Bangor Muddogs, Bath Killer Bees, King's College Regents, Manchester Tyrants.

The nicknames in Rugby League aren't horrific and if a club can use it to reach another audience and attract more fans then just go for it.

When Wakey were Wakefield Trinity Wildcats there were quite a few people on this thread who defended their moniker and how it brought young fans to appeal to the club if I remember correctly. There seems to be quite a few Wakey fans with a change of heart since the club dropped the Wildcats moniker.

Can't speak for those people and tbh I only remember there being just the odd person that liked it, generally for the idea that kids relate. I think most people thought firstly, it's a bit of a lame animal we got, plus being too much of a mouth full, as well as not being one thing or the other, are we Wakefield Wildcats, or Wakefield Trinity, or Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, you need to nail down one name imo. I know in the past especially say pre- 2010 you used to get a few people that bought into the kids like it mindset but that also went with the kids loving Daddycool the mascot, which we always could've kept even losing the Wildcats name.

There was a definite swell over the years to rebrand from all age groups. We needed a change of identity to move forward, a clean slate if you will, that came along with the club being better run both on and off the field and basically try to get rid of that old image. So for me the vast majority have enjoyed the rebrand and imo Mr Carter will say it's been the correct decision just going off the year on year huge improvements in merchandise we've sold and ateotd you can't argue with that. it just looks a far more polished cooler emblem, that all age groups can get behind IMO.

For me it's about what works for that individual team. Has been mentioned Bulls, Rhino's & Tigers have all worked for them and everyone's bought into that over the years. I think with the first two it helps because they've football teams in the City to differentiate from. But others like the 2 Hull Clubs and Trinity it hasn't. Salford a few years ago tried to try something new, going from being the reds to linking them in with Man United and the Red Devils. I don't know how their fans felt about it at the time but from my perspective, it felt the owner was just jumping onto an idea hoping it'd work.
