One of the problems the club has had over the years has been showing too much respect to players who are towards the end of their careers. We kept Brough on for two years too many for example.

Jerry has been a genuinely great player for us, but he's nearly 32 years old and still has three years left on his contract.

Its important to create a nurturing and supportive culture for the players, but it cannot come at the cost of putting off hard decisions. Avoiding reality does nobody any favours - including the players involved.

I’m not sure it’s as much a problem as a conundrum I think the club and Ken care and we have quite a lot of home grown guys in the set up which is different say from soccer where most teams now are full of continental players or from all around the UK due to the far reach of soccer scouting systems.

Jerry for many years had a partnership with Leroy Cudjoe who could magic up tries for him out of nothing with rare sleight of hand and an almost telepathic connection between the two. Jerry has never been the fastest nor the slowest, but has a good step, lots of natural power and runs a good angle with a great ability to finish.

Far be it for me to criticise a team that’s 4/5 but Jordan Turner is a left centre playing at right centre to accommodate Jake W playing left centre.

The real interesting thing about this is the clubs loyalty to Leroy, something that is right up to a point.

Whilst we think we have a chance of a Leroy playing again, providing he gets up to speed which is far easier said than done, we would look daft signing another ‘star’ centre if Leroy can play well enough again and win a new contract.

Put the ‘old’ Leroy back in or a true class right centre and Jerry might start to get the ball in a position to break tackles again with a little bit of space which a good centre will create for him.

I rate JT but a year ago the back line was meant to be Jerry, Leroy, JT and Uate, two of whom have not played very much JT was down to play left centre.

So maybe the conundrum is really Leroy and Uate, not Jerry as a Soccer club would likely have ‘retired’ both of them on medical grounds, I’m not anti Leroy far from it but both him and the club need to decide what is the likely outcome as surely we can’t be considering a contract extension at this stage....

But equally if we want to use Jerry in a better way we need a natural left to right passing centre.... JT is a right to left passer by nature....

Bottom line their attack and defence were played at a pace much faster than ours and we just couldn't match it!
No amount of coaching or tactics can make a player "run faster" Sadly the sooner some fans accept that and stop taking cheap shots cos we lost to a better team on the day and we do the best with what we've got the better IMO
Personally was looking forward to a good close tussle but it wasn't to be! Just a bad day at the office - end of!
The true test of the teams resolve and backbone will be revealed Friday - but they'll still not be 100metre Olympians whatever happens! No substitute for natural pace!

Bad news for all those sprint coaches out there if you can’t make people faster, another profession made redundant, sad

I would expect the club has a sprint coach in some sort of consulting capacity.

It seems pretty basic stuff to me.

But Cracker Jack said you can’t make people faster so no point, however unless he is a sprint coach he can’t really comment

Taken out of context but no problem.
I'm saying that it's probably a small percentage increase to someone who's got natural speed ability
Otherwise with all the expert " sprint coaches" there are in the world the Olympic record would be broken regularly.
A good sprint coach yes could probably get a few more yards out of say both Walmsley and McArthy Scarsbrook but I would still claim the latter is naturally the faster of the two and that's what the good lord gave him - not a coach in a track suit.
You have your opinion and fine
Farah and Christie are both human beings.
Both top athletes but the finest respective coaches in the world would never make Mo a 100metre sprinter despite his finishing pace or Linford into a 10000metre runner.
It's down to timproving the basic natural ability they are blessed with and in some cases that could be negligible or near its limit when they become involved
It's nature..
Lotta good racehorse trainers out there but the really special horses are the ones with natural ability in their particular aspect of the sport. Jumpers aren't sprinters aren't stayers

Just my opinion

I think the point is that "a good sprint coach yes could probably get a few more yards out of say both Walmsley and McArthy Scarsbrook.." and across a squad that might be the difference between finishing fifth or first.

Which is a hell of a lot more interesting to me than an entirely academic argument about whether its "god given" or coached.

IMO the attitude here is the reason why British RL is so far behind the NRL. All British players should be having sprint coaching to gain that small percentage increase.

Steady fella!
Natural / by nature
I'm told that doesn't come into the equation!
With the right coaching he could become what Jerry needs - and they might just also get him running faster than he can after bulking up.
Genetic qualities count for little ...
