RLWC2017 - England v. PNG Report : Sun Nov 19, 2017 7:01 am

RLWC2017 - England v. PNG Report

After yesterday's shock win for Fiji over New Zealand and Lebanon pushing Tonga all the way to the final hooter, nerves would have been shredded in the England dressing room as they came up against a passionate and fanatically supported Papua New Guinea in the last quarter final.

PNG took an unbeaten record in the group stages to Melbourne along with a massive points difference bolstered by a 64-0 win over the USA last weekend.

England had Sam Burgess back in the line-up after two games out through injury and last weeks experiment of Gareth Widdop at full-back with Kevin Brown and Luke Gale in the halves was repeated by coach Wayne Bennett.

star man mcgillvary at it again, best winger in the world right now

walmsley and roby also head and shoulders above the rest of the england team but the others are going to have to step up for us to trouble the aussies... if we dont cut out the mistakes too maybe tonga!

Could do to drop O`Loughlin and bring Bateman into loose, and put Percival in centre, also Roby to do more minutes and Hodgson less as he does not offer as much as Roby.

Hodgson offers a completely different game. They are both good at what they do.

Yes Bateman is better defensively but offers sweet FA going forward which means teams such as Australia will know we are not a threat on that side and can concentrate on our right hand side.

Can't see Bennett changing the team now im afraid though.

I think O Loughlin should be dropped but not for Heighington because he really is poor.

If Bennett is insistent on keeping Bateman at centre then I would move Sam Burgess to loose and bring McMeeken in.

Just really am so disappointed in Zak Hardaker as having his speed from full back or he could have even done a job at left centre and England would be so much stronger.
