| I too think it would be a shame if we only retained 2 from last season. Clearly 10th is nowhere near where we want to be so it’s inevitable that some lads who dug in and gave it a decent go will have to move on, or indeed likely leave the game, but I do think there are others who would be good to keep and, if we’re serious about developing local(ish) talent then Porter and Davidson as a minimum would be good retentions. However I think the X factor is the move to full time. We spent some seasons weaning players off FT and some of them are now building useful off field careers that they’d be mugs to walk away from. Also Porter and Davidson went away to Uni which suggests they too may be looking to build lucrative long term non sports careers so they simply not want to sign up FT and sadly will be joining a long line of decent home grown players who leave the game and go to Union.

| Agreed especially as we seem to be building a team to get promoted right now that would suggest not too many options for kids developing.
2 more papuans seem to be on their way, including Simbiken who I thought looked decent at Cas before falling out of favour.

| Yes I thought that Cas PNG player looked good and then, as you say, he dropped out the team. On a related point are there no overseas quotas anymore. Are there no longer any general rules about who comes to work in the UK. I thought players who didn’t have dual nationality or some such had to be current internationals or something. All a bit confusing but really happy we are recruiting. My patience at seeing us getting schooled at home my Doncaster has been exhausted.

| Good news that Liam Tindall’s been kept on by the new management. He was always a handful with ball in hand and looked dangerous every time he got some space. I never understood why he saw so little of it for the first half of last season, but once he did, the whole attack looked sharper. Glad it’s now official.

| Pleased to see that Tindall is signed up- I wonder if we’ll hear about any further retentions in the coming days?

| Connor O’Beirne and Ben Hursey-Hord have been retained as well. Great news, and both should kick on further in a more dominant squad, assuming they won’t be just bench players. That makes 14 confirmed now (unless I've missed someone!) and things are starting to take shape nicely. Really looking forward to seeing them back in training soon, hopefully with JD already back in the country although Cake will guide sufficiently in the interim. Feels like the rebuild’s properly underway!
