Joe Westerman has left Toronto after just 4 games to explore other opportunities with Superleague most likely. I’m surprised by this and I wonder where he’s going? I always thought he had the potential to be similar to Sculthorpe but he fell well short of that. Still a decent player though.

Radders would be mad not to explore that one

Totally agree but his position is not one where we’re short unless Batty has gone.

Not too sure on this. I believe there should be a distinction between a SR, 13 and prop. Lockers, sadly, seems to be a dying breed of a true 13. Bateman has the potential to be a 13. Faz, Flower, Sutton etc who've featured there seem to be just running forwards playing down the middle.

Westerman has the potential to be a ball playing forward, like Lockers. Would be interested to see what Wigan could do with him. And how he'd develop working with Lockers.

I wouldn't touch Westerman with a barge-pole. He's 28 and failed to make it big at Cas, Hull FC and Warrington, rumoured off-field issues, and now he's quickly jacked in at Toronto. Add to all that, back row is the position where we are strongest. I don't think he will ever realise his RL potential, whether that's due to attitude/off field issues or other factors. I predict his next destination will be in the Championship.

Whilst I expect him to sign for a SL club I agree 100% with everything else you have put.

Another one that had the world at his feet but chose to urinate it up a wall.

I thought the same about Joe Burgess but when he played there last season he wasn’t as effective as he is on the wing. I still think he’d be worth developing at centre if he’s going to stay. Maybe a full pre-season training in the position would help but it could be costly if we ruined a very good winger and it didn’t work out.

I know what you mean but I don't think it ruins them as a winger. At least I've seen no evidence of moving positions ruining a player that I can think of. Many moves work out really well. Hanley to loose forward, Jason Robinson to wing, Gary Connolly to centre are a few stand out examples. If we retain all 4 wingers I think someone is going to have to make a move. Certainly worth a try at the very least.

On Budgie to centre btw. I'm not sure it's a position you can just move to mid season and be expected to make a fist of so, like you say, I don't think it should be dismissed just yet.

If Manfredi comes back anything like the player he was, it would mean moving our two best wingers to to centres to accommodate two lesser wingers. Makes no sense. I can only think Wigan possibly think Manfredi is crocked or Burgess is on the move.

I would have sooner seen genuine depth in the centres otherwise with a new signing. Realistically John Bateman is never a centre, if anything game time there is hampering his development as a SR/13. This leaves two centres for two spots; Sarge and Gilly. Worthington and Brucie are yet well off. A seasoned centre would add so much to competition and cover.

When in comparison on the wings we have:

Burgess
Davies
Marshall
Manfredi (not ruling him out just yet)
Escare can cover wing if needs must (played there to point he was given the number 2 shirt)

All pushing for 2 spots.

Didn't Joe Westerman come along around the same time as Sam Burgess as the 'next big thing'? How his star was waned since those days!

I would be surprised if Manfredi comes back. Surely the new deals for Marshall and Davies strongly suggest that the club sees them as our first-choice wingers in a year or two (at the latest), with Burgess heading back to the NRL and Manfredi sadly all over.

I think Tom Davies has real potential to play centre, hes not a natural tryscorer but his strong running could see him switch to centre. Dont see Marshy or Budgie anywhere else other than wingers.
