I dont see how poor sarge was yesterday, i thought he carried the ball forward very well coming away from our line. In fact i would say he made more carries than anyone??? He has faults in his game as does everyone else but were two games in and won both easily. So lets be possitive and not look for negatives.

I don't get the hammering Sarge is taking, Gildart got a lot more wrong than him in this game.

Good to get a win against a side I fancy to win silverware this year. We handled the conditions much better than they did, and we seemed to make breaks fairly easily down the left (not surprising given that they lost their winger early). Fair play to Wane having faith in Marshall, it paid off there, though I don't think they tested him at all defensively, which is where his issues are. Flower and Sutton stood out for me.

Less positively - I felt like we bombed a lot of tries with Gildart and Williams taking the wrong options. That could come back to bite in tighter games. I also feel we need to improve our line speed and control the ruck; they were making easy metres all game, but beat themselves with errors. Will someone tell Joel Tomkins he is a forward, not a halfback?

Think we have found this years sacrificial lamb not that it was ever in doubt. You won’t find a bigger fan of Gildart than me however whilst he did come up with a couple of bits of class he came up with some absolute bowlers as well on Saturday.

In relation to the game some positives and some negatives.

Great to see us seeming to want to play rugby. It was badly needed and long overdue.

Escare’s injury doesn’t seem to have slowed him down at all and our wingers continue to do a great job.

The somewhat untested player shift after 20 seems to be working.

Negatives, ball retention still a significant issue and we still have a very bad habit of giving away an unnecessary penalty at a vital time.

If we are honest we should have put a big score on Hull especially after their injury problems during the match, but it’s early in the year and we still seem a bit rusty so all in all whilst not great it was a performance that showed promise.

For me the biggest issue is our defensive line speed and lack of ability to deal with their pack. They were winning the arm wrestle significantly. First their first few sets averaged around 60m, while we were averaging 20/30. This is everything, laying the platform, ending sets in the opposition half, finishing on attacking kicks rather than defensive clearances.

I do worry about the size of our pack.

I think it is a game where you cannot really read too much in to it, and you just need to be happy you go the 2 points. We couldn't get our defence sorted after losing Faraimo, and then had no fowards to interchange after losing Houghton. Watts tore his hammy and played on, Taylor it appears today played with a burst appendix, and Minichiello was hobbling like a goodun! You looked sharp, but was that compared to the fatigue of Hull I don't know. Both sides will be there or thereabouts I would have thought

If he played with a burst appendix, he deserves the Victoria Cross.

When my appendix burst, not only was I almost comatose with the pain, I had to be rushed into hospital for an emergency operation.

I was just about to question this myself. This happened to me when i was much younger and i had to be rushed to hospital for an emergency operation too.
A swollen appendix is much more likely.

Ive said that our pack is too small on several occasions and been shot down for saying that.

Re: Hull game : Mon Feb 12, 2018 1:09 pm
to summarise, if you are Dan Sarginson you may as well give up on your own fans ever applauding you, unless of course they aren't your typical cherry and white "die-hards" who want every best player in the world in every single position, all available when we need them at the drop of a hat and of course, for free.

if you are an ex-wiganer returning, you better hope you somehow are now twice the player no matter your experiences away from the club as otherwise you are a pointless signing and a waste of space.

am I right?

I can name 3 or 4 players from the first two games of this season who have played worse than Sarge. in fact, i don't even think he has done much wrong. he is 2 games in to his return to wigan. go and moan about your black bins, it would be much more worthwhile. in the meantime I know that I, along with a decent few of you on here, will actually continue to support not only Dan but the whole team considering we've made a pretty decent start to the season and I hope it continues.

Must be aggravating the life out of some on here that they have won both games and have actually played some fairly decent rugby.

If we'd lost and had the injuries that Hull had, we'd be in meltdown on here
