Monaco - Arsenal. Cross into Monaco penalty area from a free kick. Ball headed to Arsenal player who looks to have strayed offside. He hits the bar but the flag is up.

On the replay it shows that it was actually a Monaco defender who headed it.

Clive Tydesley, the ITV commentator, twice makes the comment that the header has to be deliberate by the Monaco player and because he accidentally headed it backwards rather than forwards it renders the linos offside flag correct.

That utter lack of football knowledge should be a sackable offence. I want to smash my TV after hearing that.

"In the context of Law 11 – Offside, the following definitions apply:"

"A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent, who
deliberately plays the ball (except from a deliberate save), is not considered
to have gained an advantage."

So the ITV commentators are correct!

FIFA might have messed up in the wording of the offside law. That doesn't really make any sense to me. You need to quote Law 11 to see what that says. They haven't changed the offside law to the dumb 5hit Tydsley was saying last night. FIFA are corrupt and obsessed with money, but they are not stupid enough to bring in Tydsley's law without the world telling them where to shove it.

Just brilliant wasn't it. Pele was on the field for longer, providing twitter with enough to go at for unfunny memes for about the next decade, with things that lasted longer than Stevie G.

I thought United were the better team by an amazing distance. Everyone has been going on and on about 'Brodgers' and his amazing tactical setup. I'll tell you what, they've got some decent players in Coutinho, Sterling and Sturridge, but they are just the luckiest team in the world. Swansea battered them last week by all accounts but were unlucky and Liverpool got that goal. Today, United's players were setup better, far more solidity in the way they were lined up.

Brodgers excuses for Skrtel are an absolute joke as well after all the crying and moaning about Costa. Skrtel's was a red card offense as well and should be picked up by the FA as it wasn't dealt with on the field.

What has he said? I agree it was pretty much the same as the Costa incident, so it would be considerable hypocrisy to defend it.

It's some insult to have your arrogance publicly criticised by Nigel Pearson.
