Just had a look and YES it could work - ideal in many ways especially close to the town centre and the bus and train station.

If there was the drive and imagination then.... errr.... but and there is the rub - I can see the College being up for it and maybe even the club but the real driving force required that being WMDC then forget it. Every option they come up with seems to require more effort than the last which is totally at odds with the Councils lack of will displayed so far to make any of these plans happen!

Sorry but IMHO there is nothing to see here unless you believe in miracles and I no longer do

Genuine political will is all that we need.
Sadly, with regards to Trinity, this has been totally lacking for all of my years supporting Trinity.
The Newmarket plan could still happen if the political will was there to drive it through but, it appears that what we have instead, is yet another white elephant, something that give the non RL public the impression that WMDC actually give a toss.
Should we even dare to mention funding for their new idea or is this just another fag packet idea ?

We are already on borrowed time and WMDC will know this.
They are happy to string us along, hoping that Trinity either fold or are relegated.

Cracking location in isolation, however access would be a real issue. No way is the road network geared up for any sort of crowd round there. I would say its worse than Belle Vue.

I found this piece from back in 2010 which makes interesting reading (for those who are actually interested in this subject!):

https://www.wakefieldexpress.co.uk/news ... e-1-974835

and this;

Balne Lane Playing Fields (SF15): The site is allocated for Sports Facilities in the emerging Leisure, Recreation and Open Space Local Plan. Proposals include creating new rugby and football pitches and ancillary facilities for Wakefield College and wider community use. A Strategic Leisure Corridor through the site linking Thornes Park, Wrenthorpe Park and Alverthorpe Meadows will also be created. There is potential to develop other community sports facilities within the site and provide some ecological enhancements along Balne Beck. The Playing Pitch Strategy will include an assessment of sports pitch requirements.

There we go. The optimism didn't last long. Snout well and truly in the trough

If the council don't know by now where we can have a stadium then we're stuffed. I can't believe this
continued saga which has been going on for longer than two world wars.
We're talking about a simple (relatively!) sports stadium not a major shopping complex, that has now been going on for years and made WT the laughing stock of RL, and WMDC not far behind.

Our first house was on Silcoates Park, at the far end of the playing field (Aspen Close), so I know the area well...

It is bordered by the Silcoates Park estate on one side, Peacock estate on another, the Leeds-London railway line on another and Balne Lane on the fourth side. The only access to the site would be from Balne Lane with it's single-file railway bridge !!
The only place to park would be on Peacock Estate !!!
Total and complete non-starter and as stated above yet another time-wasting red herring from the morons at WMDC and their associated cronies :BEAT: :BEAT: :BEAT: :BEAT: :BEAT: :BEAT: :BEAT: :BEAT: :BEAT: :BEAT: :BEAT:

That piece from 2010 contains the following line:
But it emerged that a covenant placed on the land when it was sold to the council by a Mrs Mackie 70 years earlier said the field must be retained for community use.

Any relation, do we think???

This just looks like one more delaying tactic by the council - announce something different again and then spend another few months assessing the viability before giving up on it and announcing something else.....

I see Walker's 'charitable' trust is still not registered, at least not that I can see.

I was cautiously optimistic before that bloaters name got mentioned. If he is any way involved, forget it !!!!

His involvement tells you all you need to know its another scam.

Yet again Peter Box poses on more land.

If he put as much effort into sorting out the stadium as he does having his photo taken I would be more than happy.

Then we hear that Rodney Walker is also very pleased with how things are shaping up but still hides behind a clandestine trust that lurks in the shadows.

When will our politicians clean up their acts and be more transparent. Their actions leave me in content of how they treat the citizens of Wakefield.
