RLWC2017 - England v. PNG Report : Sun Nov 19, 2017 7:01 am

RLWC2017 - England v. PNG Report

After yesterday's shock win for Fiji over New Zealand and Lebanon pushing Tonga all the way to the final hooter, nerves would have been shredded in the England dressing room as they came up against a passionate and fanatically supported Papua New Guinea in the last quarter final.

PNG took an unbeaten record in the group stages to Melbourne along with a massive points difference bolstered by a 64-0 win over the USA last weekend.

England had Sam Burgess back in the line-up after two games out through injury and last weeks experiment of Gareth Widdop at full-back with Kevin Brown and Luke Gale in the halves was repeated by coach Wayne Bennett.

War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

Thank God I'm an atheist.

Bateman
Hill
Hodgson

Three good reasons why England won't realise their potential.

He is too scared defensively is Bennett IMHO. That is why Bateman and Hodgson are in the side.
Can you imagine everything started with and going through a dullard like Hodgson?
When there is Roby!!!!

Bateman couldn't outpace my grandad.
Get Percival back in.

It's because Bateman is such a lamebrain and a rubbish passer that Ryan Hall has only got the odd try.

Wayne Bennett? ... more like Wayne Kerr!

I'm sure they are all lovely fellas in real life.

Playing bateman over Percival purely because he is a better defender is a crazy reason to choose a centre, personally I would of took makinson who's excellent in both deparments.

Re: RLWC2017 - England v. PNG Report : Mon Nov 20, 2017 2:11 pm
England would have blasted PNG IF the referee (another WEAK English one) hadn't been playing to the Australian version of what constitutes acceptable.

Namely having extra time in the tackle to lay on, push and shove, not let go, try to dislodge the ball and push the tackled player as he tries to regain his feet and tries to play the ball.

IF said weak ref had played to our levels of what is acceptable then PNG would have been on a team warning AND players sent to the bin.

What about the time one of our lads grubber/punted the ball to their right corner, a metre out from the try line.
Their LONE player fell on it while two of our players tackled him the first of which was Bateman who stood up and invited the PNG player to play the ball as the PNG player HAD to do.
The PNG player got up looked around and realised he was alone. There was NO PNG player within 10m. So he did the only thing he thought he could do under the circumstances ... he fell down as though injured.
Bateman was incandescent as was I.
After what seemed like an eternity one of the other PNG players got back at which point the seemingly injured PNG player shot up like Bambi and played the ball.
Bateman was doubly incandescent and gave the ref the works.
The ref did NOTHING!!!!!!

He plays the ball or it is a penalty!!!

Another thing ... no way should that Lebanon try have been disallowed for obstruction.
Thaler!

Lebanon were robbed!

Well done the English refs.
