A streaming service is needed. Like the NFL game pass/NRL.
A subscription which gets you games, magazine shows, documentaries etc.
They could do things like "a day in the life" have a camera crew follow a player for a day, he could show us around his home, talk about his memorabilia etc. Offer abit more insight. Different player every month or so.

It would be good to see a typical training session - how much effort is put into it or are players just going through the motions

The best marketing tool for the game is the players themselves.
The stories they have, what go's on behind the scenes, the triumphs, the failures and the controversy its a great mix of reality and story telling. If we only spent the correct time these guys need to get the points across in a media friendly manner we'd be on to a sure fire winner.
