SL Teams upgrading. : Mon Dec 03, 2018 8:35 pm
Hi guys, recent posting which I view as correct stating we now have the strongest team ever in the super league
Era.
However, I do also think that other teams have upgraded, two teams considerably, 1st Leeds, when any team buys that quality then results inevitability follow especially with a coach of his standing, they will be in the top eight pressing for top four. 2nd Catalan will not be hampered with all those initial league points lost early, they also will be top eight at least ! -- with the strengthening of wires, saints - with walmsley back, wigan still making up ground
on signings but strong as ever.
So we have our work cut out to be as smart & as fit in order to be placed 4th - 5th or even within the top 8.
This coming season is going to be very tight in league points followed by points difference.
Cas are still due to strengthen the centres & Shuddrs are still to strengthen.
I want us to be better than last year but have a reality check, don't expect we will sweep all before us, we will have
To match these teams & rise above them in performance each & every game regardless injuries & tiredness.
We also as a team need to learn & organize the business end of the season as other top four teams always do !
In short we need to be fitter, faster, quicker & able to change tactics on the pitch which is what champion teams do.
I am really looking forward to kick-off day.
Up the Trin.

Not really news is it. All teams attempt to upgrade every season - some do better than others - as Saints found to their cost you never know until the end of the season.

No it's not news & I agree with your previous posting our team has to match up ! I was merely pointing out that just because we have a better team than last 2 years doesn't mean automatic better results especially as the teams above us have upgraded & two teams that were bottom four will not be in that position again this coming season.
That is why we have to get/go beyond their ability & game to surpass them.
Up the Trin.

The point is well made though.
We and everyone else have to improve each year just to get to the same level as before.
I think we are well placed but survival is still the first target.

I wouldn’t expect Leeds to make a massive improvement. There’s an awful lot of deadwood there, especially these young talents they were supposed to have but haven’t improved at all. Sutcliffe etc. Average at best, shouldn’t be anywhere near the England team.

Not just that but Furner seems heavily reliant on 3 players in Merrin, Hurrell and Lolohea, all 3 are quality players but how they will settle into life in England and playing Super League is anyone's guess... People keep talking them up for next year but I cant see them really troubling the top 4/5, in fact I think they will struggle again.

There are a lot of unknowns, there are usually but I think going into 2019 there are a lot of question marks over certain teams.

Hudds have made a few decent signings but before were heavily reliant on Brough to pull the strings, Frawley is a bit of a unknown, will he step up? If the rumour about Seb to Cas is true then the Hudds pack looks pretty much non existent!

If Cas sign Seb and bring in another centre then I can see them challenging next year, even without those i think they are probably still top 5 material, but it will be tight.

Saints have signed well but lack depth, if they have a few injuries they might not go as well as expected.

Wigan - Cannot predict there season tbh, the players they have seem to suit the style of play that Wane instilled into them, will it suit Lams? Lost some big players in Bateman, Sutton and Tomkins and don`t really seem to have replaced them?

Wire have plenty of quality and plenty of depth in there squad, If Austin has come to play I think they will go one extra and win it this year.

All points are valid from all the postings, I was pleased with chesters points when on stage at the players night last week especially about fitness & wanting to Win + controlling games, so, up the Trin.

Its brilliant that we have seen year on year improvement, I would like to see us instigate a more mature game plan. The OP is correct there are some great teams and you can make a case for 10 of the 12 finishing in the top 5, Salford have a great coach, a great team spirit and Hastings, that said they will not finish top 5. London is a great story and you would have to have a heart of stone not to wish them well and for coach Ward`s stock not to rise even higher, they will be enthusiastic and determined but again will not finish above 11th. In order for us fulfill our potential we need to be consistent, we need mistake free basic rugby as our core game plan, we need to learn to grind out a results, to be patient, to look for repeat sets. Also note that Leeds will be a top side again, their coach will instill all the above qualities in his team, they have top new overseas players and anybody who thinks that their young home grown players are not up to the job then watch this space. The Leeds coach will get the best out of them.

Then I have a heart of stone, could not really care less about London and where they finish, or any other team apart from Wakefield for that matter, I think they will go down, Although Salford will have to be very lucky with injuries not to be in danger of relegation, yes they have some quality but there squad is paper thin, and its a long season.

To say Leeds will be a top side once again really is guess work, as I stated previously they are heavily reliant on there 3 new signings and new coach, and lets not forget they have lost the only 2 real quality players they had out of the group of players from last year in Moon and Hall, I honestly can not see them troubling the top 4/5 in 2019.
