Widnes Saints v Wigan Riversiders - Match Photos : Sat May 16, 2009 9:29 pm
It may not have been the result you wanted at the Saints today, but full credit to everyone involved with the Riversiders team.
Having been around the Saints side for a couple of years now, their record in the summer conference often means opposition teams turn up intent on playing spoiling tactics, more often than not that leads to games littered with penalties and cards!!! Today is right up there with with the best summer conference games I've seen, and the credit for that must go to the Riversiders, you guys came to play good rugby and you didn't let anyone down on that score. I firmly believe that will be the first of a few clashes with the Saints this summer, as a divisional final between the two of you is a distinct possibility. The weather couldn't make its mind up this afternoon, but thankfully it didn't ruin my attempts to capture some of the action with the camera The rest of the match pics can be found on my website... HERE On a personal note, I just wanted to pass on my thanks to those of you who kindly helped out my fellow photographer when the sun got the better of him for a while in the second half. Daryl has been taking photographs of rugby around Widnes for many, many years, and despite not being in the best of health anymore he continues to turn out most Saturday's to support the Amateur game. The weather today got to him a bit this afternoon, and while I'd dashed off to the bar to get him a glass of water, the concern expressed for him by the Riversiders team was a real credit to the club. So once again, a big thank you from me on Daryl's behalf. I'll look forward to seeing the Riversiders in action again, and wish you every success for the remainder of the season. LeedsViking |
