but not yet apparently ... and I was wondering who his successor should be. I think with recent and historic, er, difficulties, they need to broaden the church's appeal, and so my suggestion is either Madonna or, if it still has to be a white male, Ricky Gervais. He would make a great Pope, either as himself, or even Pope Derek.
Sadly though Tony is probably already lined up.

I imagine you did the same as I did this morning: clicked on the "trending" link on the BBC News website.
Quite why Pope Benedict's decision to swallow the anchor was trending today is totally beyond me
