No, it crashed. Landing is something else entirely. Go and look up what a landing is. Hint: it's what most of us are used to when we fly.

It wasn't a landing, it wasn't even a crash landing, it was simply a crash.

| Anyone see the fighter plane escorting the passenger plane over Stockport just? Seemed to be really harassing it, circling it both over and under and in front of the cockpit. Don't know what's going on but must have made it quite choppy and scary for those on the passenger plane.

Apparently due to information received by the pilot re a suspected device on board.
Doubt it will have made any difference to the passengers, apart from wondering what the hell was going on. The fighter pilot will know where to position himself to avoid his wash affecting other aircraft.
I flew out of JFK to Manchester on BA in 2003. Looked out the window somewhere over the Atlantic and saw the lights of a fighter a few hundred feet below us, close enough I could see the cockpit display and the pilot's head moving. I asked one of the crew if there was any reason we might be being escorted but they didn't believe me until they looked for themselves.
As it was, after a short time it slowly flew ahead and disappeared. Most likely they were simply heading over to Iraq ready for Dubya's brainfart war which began later that month, but it certainly got the mind going.

One man now arrested for a hoax bomb threat. Yikes, I'd have been evacuating myself if that had happened on a flight I was on.
How long will he get for that?

Most likely they were simply on exercises, or there was a plane that wasn't responding to ATC.
Most fighter jets have a range of around 1,000 miles, which is a slight problem for crossing the Atlantic.

| Aircraft have to be specially adapted or even designed for use on carriers, that is not usually an option for Air Force, as opposed to Navy, aircraft. the Typhoon's range is usually quoted as1,800 miles, for example. In flight refuelling is very common practice. Source of my information: father in law was a USAF Colonel and spent some time as a test pilot, also gaining comparison experience on a number of NATO types not used by the Americans.

Never said it didn't happen, but I very much doubt active assets in Afghanistan/Iraq return to Uncle Sam for maintenance and re-arming etc. local bases are used. To suggest that a Typhoon takes off from Mainland USA to carry out strikes in the middle east is a little silly.
