Your extra 50p per car was wont cover the additional fuel, food and increases in housing costs, especially if the water is frozen.
I think you will remember the 70's and 80's with high inflation and the constant battle for wages to keep up and the strike action that usually went along with the situation.
With public sector workers having been squeezed for the last 10 years of so, if inflation takes off, things will start to get very messy and we know how the Tories love to slap the public sector.
