Re: Deepest recession in 100 year ? : Mon Jun 01, 2020 8:10 am
Lockdown seems to have been over since VE Day round where we live. Through the day, people were sat in their own gardens and visitors had set up tables and chairs in the streets. By the time the drink had started flowing, and the music was turned up, people were in each others gardens, all the kids were playing together. It was just like any other street party.

As the days passed by, the roads were getting busier, I noticed more and more visitors at houses on my dog walks, people were chatting face to face in the street.

When 'Cummingsgate' kicked off, that was it. The last week has just been like any old week. BBQs look to have friends and family in attendance, kids are in and out of the gardens and houses. One of our neighbours have actually had friends stay over for the night!

We live in a fairly small, semi-rural village with loads of green space. I dread to think what it's like on the sprawling urban estates where everyone lives on top of each other.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

Breaking the lockdown rules doesn't matter a jot, if you are one of the Governments chosen few, we all know that now and consequently, the lockdown "rules" are in tatters.
The test and trace is also screwed, due the Government failing to understand and implement a system that allows the various mobile devices to "talk" to one another, effectively omitting half of the mobile network.

I'm sure that they will be along soon to tell us that "X" million phones are compatible but, they have made a fundamental error (again).

25,000 tracers, most of whom are currently twiddling their thumbs, wont be enough.

More overstating capacity and mis leading the public - business as usual for this lot.

I completely agree - for me the best thing that could happen is understand who has had this virus and if you get it do you produce enough antibodies to prevent re-infection? You could be tested this week and get infected the next day? With track and trace you could be in permanent lock down and who is to stop malicious use of this? Would you download the app - I wouldn't.

Track and trace has been shown to work well in countries that have efficient governments that are trusted by the people. So, no I wont be downloading the app.

Our track and trace with regards the app is different from the majority of European countries who use a system produced by Apple and Android which is harder to hack because the information is located deep in your phone. The government’s system uses a central unit to store people’s details and currently relies more on the individual rather than technology.
I regret that the actions of the government and their employees have generated a lot of mistrust by the way they have handled the pandemic thereby increasing the populations doubt what they say about track and trace details.

It seems that Johnson is a little more uncomfortable with Starmer opposite him in The Commons.
Johnson expects the opposition to just keep nodding as the mistakes and lies continue to tot up.

His ministers, advisers and fellow MP's (well most of them) just keep trotting out lie after lie.
Independent bodies can no longer follow the Governments arithmetic and have asked the government to explain and Boris wants the leader of the opposition to just go along with his falsehoods.

Starmer and others are damn right to call the government out.
Putting tests "in the post" is not the same as having capacity to test "X" number of people.
The test's are worthless without swift and accurate results.

There are cracks appearing at every turn with this lot and getting them somewhere closer to being truthful is absolutely right

Johnson said 200,000 tests but that was corrected to capacity but again today he said tests, a figure we have go nowhere near. This is despite including postal tests, double tests and if they take a swab from the nose and mouth this is two tests. I guess this is why the actual number of people tested is no longer provided.
I find it amazing that he wants the opposition to back his failures with the handling of the virus. He also still believes that the population have not seen through the government’s failures.
It is obvious his only defence when not answering questions is to show his annoyance for someone daring to ask such things of him.

The Telegraph had a good exclusive today - Boris Johnson is to take "direct control" of the Government's handling of the coronavirus crisis

So who was in "direct control" before? Don't tell me Johnson was "too busy running the country to worry about the coronavirus crisis", as if he's some sort of genius working on a new economic plan for Britain, along with a cure for cancer.

Say what you want about Corbyn. At least he wouldn't be in hiding.
