Re: Brexit Anyone ? (part 3) : Mon Jan 14, 2019 11:01 am
Not long to the "big vote" and Mrs May looks set for a heavy defeat.
Having waited until the very last minute to try and engage with anyone other than her own cabinet, she will get what she deserves and be forced to resign (the men in suits are following her every move).
The real question is what happens next ?
Deal, no deal, round the block again with a second referendum or Corbyn gaining power through a General Election (an still trying to lead a split parliament through the Brexit process).

I know that we all knew what we were voting for  but, none of us expected the utter fiasco that we currently have.

Should never have invoked A50 until we had agreement about what we wanted.

No deal is too painful.

No Brexit is too undemocratic.

Everything in between is too unpopular.

If we can delay long enough the world will change and provide new opportunities. If not politically, then eventually geologically. There’s a theory that there’ll only be one big continent in 250 million years.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

What happens if they have another vote and the vote delivers the same result - do we leave with no deal, or do we keep having votes until we get a remain vote?

Unless there is proof of a huge swing in either direction (either a hardening of Brexit or in favour of remain), another referendum will just pro long the agony.
Having said that, it appears that Labour are leaning towards remaining in a customs union, keeping us somewhat closer to the EU, whilst allowing a "soft" border in Ireland.
Mind you, they have been blowing with the wind for the last 2 1/2 years so their policy could change at any time. Plus, there is no certainty of either an election or, Labour success in an election.

The big question still remains, why the hell didn't the Tories rally ALL support for Brexit straight after the referendum result and pin Laboutr down to leaving the EU, instead of waiting until it was too late and opposite opinions became further entrenched.

As things stand, assuming that The Tories remain in power, the only way we will leave is with no deal and there seems little appetite for that option

Surely it depends what the question would be, if it said do you wish for a "No Deal"style exit, then that's what should happen.

It's such a shame that the Bojo's of this world didn't campaign for a No Deal scenario, instead they lied to the country that a deal would be a piece of cake & the N.H.S. would be wadded.

Bojo is like Corbyn, self infornt of everything.

He was advocating remain until he thought he could become PM and then Gove stabbed him in the back, justice really.

Do you mean another referendum or a second parliamentary vote on May’s deal if/when it is voted down tonight?

If the former, I agree a second referendum is not a sensible approach. Then again, it is identifying sensible ways forward that is the tougher task. The only type of referendum that might make sense, imo, would be for type of Brexit, but the EU are hardly going to agree a menu of options in advance, so it risks being too vague again.

If it is the latter, then crashing out is the default, but who knows. Feckin’ shambles.

There are only 229 configurations of a polygon formed by adding three vertices to each side of a triangle.
F00k me, Theresa even managed to lose by one more than that!

Let's just keep voting.
The old blue-rinse fuddie-duddies will all die off sooner or later.
Then the young, and the future, will get their way. :thumb:
