Went to see it last night and really enjoyed it. Thought it was very funny and an interesting concept, although the ending wasn't as much of a shock to me as I thought it would be. About 10 minutes in, I actually thought I had it figured. I thought that *SPOILER* the reveal would be that the thing was a set-up to make horror films for an audience. I thought that the competition with the Japanese mirrored the way the Americans try and emulate everything from the Japanese horror market. *SPOILER*. I saw it today and thought it was rather good but not at all scary. That blonde had nice breasts.

Just on John Carter, just because a book is (or even more so, WAS) big at the time it was released, doesn't mean it's in any way suited to being made into a film. Most Asimov books for example would be dreadfully dull movies. SF short stories/novellas are often far better source material for film. The John Carter books are poor full stop.

Anybody catch Bus 174 on BBC2 last night? Recommended on iPlayer by the guy who directed both Elite Squad films and he's got the Robocop remake as well. The opening shots are truly breathtaking.

watched KATYN last night. great Polish film. i didnt find the subtitles distracted in any way.
i always thought i knew most of the katyn story but i learnt quite a bit more from the film.
recommended.

I caught the first half hour of it but fell to kip as I'd had a few shandies.
Looked like the kidnapper had been on the glue-bag.

Will have to catch up with the remainder of it as it looked decent.
