Afghanistan certainly is done but, it will be the Russians, Chinese and others that decide it's future, not the Afghan people.
As for Britains colonial past, there will always be issues if we try and compare the actions of 150+ years ago with how we try to behave these days although, some people do seem to think that Britain still rules the world but, we are a little way down the pecking order.

Completely agree - until the 1900s we had children working in factories!!

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Frederick Douglas

We still do, we just moved the factories to Pakistan and Bangladesh whilst 're branding it as "fast fashion".

Dom lost his job over a small international issue that is now yesterday’s news. Sad really, I suspect it’s an another example of the “cancel culture” being played out. Don’t like something call for their head.
He can now get on with sorting out the trouble makers closer to home which is more important to most of us. Well done Boris.

I can’t believe that the excuse given by Raab for the slow withdrawal of Afghans was because we did not want just anybody to come in due to our generosity of spirit. The outcome was that we left many to die because of our generosity of spirit.

Its old news lets move on. We have far more pressing issues to be worried about. Some whistleblower looking for his 15 minutes.

The Cons Xmas party is bigger news and thats a non story, although listening to Labour you would think something bad had occurred.

"Brian McDermott, with a wry smile, nods when asked if he remembers a specific incident which made him realise he was a prick. 'I do', he murmurs."

Re: Afghenistan - Domonic Raab : Tue Dec 07, 2021 10:34 pm
Ah yes, another favourite approach of the Conservative Defence League is that really awful stuff that is being reported will be framed as unimportant if it happened some time in the past.

"Oh this shambolic piece of governing is old news", they'll say.

As if that makes it irrelevant. As if that makes it all right. As if that will bring back to life the people betrayed by Raab and Johnson and who are now dead.

The defenders are using all the pages of the playbook to try and cover up what has essentially been a clown car of a government almost every day since the 2019 election. Unfortunately for them their task is starting to become impossible.

Some of the mental gymnastics on display across the media is verging on comical. I don't know how anyone is willing to make themselves look so daft defending someone else.
