Top 100 films of the 00s - The Top 5

Girl with the Dragon tattoo - David Fincher did a great job with this, dark and atmospheric.

Thought that was a lot better than the original. More emphasis it seems on the fascism side which got a bit lost during the run-of-the-mill drama direction in it. I think she might have been a bit better as well than the girl that did the original part i.e. she felt like a better fit for the role. The emotion of it didn't really register in the first because it felt a bit silly but Fincher managed to rein in those bits although it's probably the weakest film he's done since Panic Room.

Always on a hiding to nothing re-making a film which is so popular, it just gets viewed as another hollywood re-make. I said to my daughter who loves the original trilogy that Fincher wouldn't just make it for the sake of it. She's lost faith since 'Let the right one on'/'Let me in' re-make. I thought he did a good job and managed to somehow make it his own. I forgot he did Panic Room, oops!

Noomi Rapace was fantastic as Lisbeth Salander. As I read somewhere if you've seen the original then you don't need to see the Hollywood remake. Why Hollywood made their version is beyond me.

You're all out of time.

Saw Prometheus yesterday. I thought it was decent. Not really a massive fan of Alien or horror films in general so my expectations were probably lower than most. I definitely wasn't desperate to see it but always do Orange Wednesdays and it was that or MIB 4. The 2 hours went pretty quick.

I enjoyed Fincher's version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but i've not seen the original swedish version at all.

Next week might give Ill Manors a watch.

Every player in our squad could probably earn more money with another club. But they prefer to sacrifice a few extra quid in their back pocket to share special memories. And playing at a place like Old Trafford on a night like this makes it all worthwhile.

True, but then I'd ask if you can't do better why make something so similar (but inferior, IMO) and go to pains to suggest it's NOT actually a prequel (which it is).

This all sounds very negative and the film is decent enough.

Why not see it and make your own mind up?

As a big fan of the novels who has seen all three of the Rapace films I have to say the Hollywood version was better and more faithful to the novel. I also preferred Mara's "Salander" as the emotional depth and humour (there is some in there) came across better though that could just be because she spoke English.

Ill Manors

Hard to watch, gritty British film. Uncomfortable to watch at times but after a slow opening 20mins the film really gets going.

Good debut by Ben "Plan B" Drew which shows lots of promise

To blank out as much Jubilee gash as possible . I watched a couple of films I've had on the Sky box for a bit .
The Road - Quite a depressing movie slow going but just good enough to keep me interested . Chocolate - From the makers of Ong Bak (which I still haven't seen). Loved it , I found myself rewinding the fight scene's in howls of laughter and f*ckme's . Great fight scenes. Chocolate 2 is on it's way later this year.

The tv footage that the girl in Chocolate watches to learn the muay-thai moves are clips from Ong Bak.

Warrior King is also well worth a watch but avoid the sequels to Ong Bak, they are terrible.
