It seems EA have launched a broken game. The new Sim City has a metacritc score of 1.7 and Amazon US have pulled it from their site due to customer complaints. There's even an online petition for refunds on all sales
I've never played this game, but a lot of people are talking about it. I struggle to understand the game to be honest. You build a City, and then what? Do you have to earn certain things? Unlock things? Seems a strange game. Much like that minecraft thing people play.

That's a real shame, I was kind of looking forward to playing that. I remember playing it as a kid years ago and liking it a lot. It's a game that passes the time without any of the stress and anxiety modern games give you. Is it just the bugs that are giving people the motivation to give it such a horrific score? If so, it can be fixed. Most Football Manager releases have been like that, bordering on the unplayable upon release and refined over 11 months so it's fully working a month before the new game comes out.
The game was built with online play in mind, and the finished product requires you to constantly be connected to one of the servers while you play, regardless of what mode you are playing. It's a stupid, horrible feature that is creeping into more and more games these days and (if you believe some reports) will be standard practice on the next Xbox.
The problem in this case, and I'm sure it won't be the last, is that the servers weren't up to the demand, and died on their @rse as soon as the game launched. So this meant it was nigh on impossible to play the game. If you were lucky enough to connect to a server, you couldn't save your game, connect to friends, connect to anyone, and you probably got d/c'ed within 5 minutes. It was a total shambles, and what's worse is that the devs didn't really know how to fix it, resorting to disabling basic features of the game in order to try and get it working.
So it's not so much 'bugs' preventing people enjoying the game, and more of a complete and utter game-breaking error.
One of the worst video game launches I can remember for quite some time.
Just discovered the Retron consoles, not sure how these have escaped me so far but caught a preview of the soon to be launched Retron 4.
I own a Megadrive but have wanted a SNES for ages and the Reron 4 plays both.
I really think that Nintendo and Sega are missing a trick by not re-releasing limited edition versions of the SNES and Megadrive along with a specially selected re-release of old games.

I do a bit of retro on my phone with emulators and games like Advance Wars, but I can't see why anyone would want something like that. There are much better old school games around now than anything from the MegaDrive/SNES era.

Its just not the same on a phone.
Playing games such as Contra 3 on a SNES is brilliant and brings back lots of great memories. I was not suprised to learn that a new Neo Geo has been released which plays the old snk games, looks like a great bit of kit.

The review scores for Bioshock Infinite are starting to filter through, and they are crazy high. It's currently sat with a metacritic score of 95, which would make it one of the highest ranked games in years if it stays that way.
I wasn't really taking much of an interest in it up until this point, but rave reviews across the board cannot be ignored. Just picked it up, looking forward to getting stuck in this evening at some point.
