The Founding of a RepublicTouted as the first film featuring Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Donnie Yen all together I was intrigued and took a punt on DVD. I feel duped, I expected some sort of spectacular martial arts film, it wasn't. It turns out to be a Chinese government propaganda film to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Mao winning the Chinese civil war. Chan, Li and Yen are barely in the film for 5 minutes combined, reduced to mere cameo roles which you barely notice. What you end up with is a film that lacks the artistic impression of some of the really great Chinese films like Hero or the grittiness that's associated most modern war films, which leaves it pretty bland. Avoid.
