I got an xbox one a few weeks ago and I'm loving it. I guess it depends on what games you prefer but so far I've no regrets, Although the ps4 is more powerful I'm not sure whether it makes a great deal of difference to the untrained eye although the main attraction for me to get the Xbox one was Halo.
Really loving smartglass etc on the xbox too.
PS4 will get better frame rates etc but you would only notice it under real scrutiny, but it could make a difference to the quality of future games. PC beats both
So which next gen would people recommend? Been going with PC gaming for the time being but I think i'll get one once the price comes down.
Do you have any mates who own either of the consoles? One of the main reasons why I bought a ps3 instead of a 360 back in the day was because most of my mates were getting a ps3 as well. It was a similar situation for the ps4.
Other than that, you're looking at the exclusives for each console and see if any of those sway your decision. The general consensus for this generation is that multi platform titles run better on the ps4, if that helps.
It helps if you know other people who play the game. You can play the entire game in co-op and it is infinitely more enjoyable this way. The story is poor, but certainly longer than 8 hours, and there is a ton of stuff to do once the basic story is over. I love this game, I am obsessed with it right now.
The hunt for new and better gear, the chance to find a rare weapon, the daily updates to bounty hunts and missions. Honestly, I would argue that once you get the story out of the way and reach a certain level with your character, the game just blossoms into something on a completely different level.
I must be close to about 30 hours now spent playing this, and I'm still on my first character. There are two other classes I haven't even touched yet. I've barely scratched the surface of the competitive multiplayer, I still have a long way to go before my character is maxed out, and I haven't even touched the special 'raid' event they released last week that is supposed to be a serious challenge.
The game received another nice new (free) update again yesterday and there are a few more planned in the next few weeks.
To say it's only an 8 hour game is doing it a huge dis-service. I can't get enough of it right now.
Complaints I'm hearing about it are broken loot system (grinding for hours and getting a pile of crap), and very repetitive mission areas, plus rubbish AI. Sure, you'll get a little bit of free stuff, but come on, Activision is the publisher, everything half-dozen will be paid DC (that was probably held back on release).

I actually think the loot system is fine as it is - you're supposed to buy the decent stuff, not randomly find it on the floor - but it's getting patched tomorrow anyway to make it less cruel. Repetitive missions, I can agree with to a certain extent. But I don't really mind replaying missions that much because the gameplay is just fun. The AI seems fine? I've not heard any complaints tbh.
Only yesterday someone's game bugged to show all the areas that are set to be unlocked via dlc, which suggests it is all already on the disc. I agree with you that Activision are money grabbing whores, and this practice is not something I like to see. No excuses really, it's not on.

Priceless
It's a disgusting practice, but, people are stupid, and will buy it, so expect it to continue for a long, long time.

I've seen really bad reviews of destiny. 500 mill and they've produced an incomplete game. Storyline is apparently weak and gameplay reptitive, spawning in the same locations all the time, your character is revived after like a 1000 years and has basically no reaction.....just loads and loads of stuff.

From this it sounds like you've watched the Angry Joe review? They're selling STORY missions as DLC, STORY MISSIONS. What in the actual f**k is that about?? A lot of the story seems to be 'go here, The Ghost hacks something while you defend him for a set time, and repeat'. Lazy, lazy design and development. Not that it's a completely new thing, Halo always annoyed me with 'go here, clear an area, followed by the good old ''covenant dropship inbound'', drops a few waves of enemies, and repeat'. Games like World Of Warcraft release massive expansions every few years, what it looks like with Destiny is that a lot of it is ready now but they're going to give you endless, regular expansions, god only knows how much you'd have spent by the end of the game's lifespan. My back is really up about this, i want to play Destiny, looting is one of my favourite gaming activties, but i just don't want to buy this game full-price just because of the sheer gall of what they've done with it.
Are people really surprised that the story in Destiny is helpful? Bungi have never been great at storytelling. Halo is a good concept but handled very poorly IMO.
