Valley Cougars 6 South Wales Scorpions 70 Story in brief:
Despite an early score from Welsh Champions Valley Cougars, South Wales Scorpions had no problems in seeing off their hosts in their final pre-season friendly.
The Scorpions know that they will have more stiff opposition in Dewsbury Rams on Sunday 6th March in the Challenge Cup at The Gnoll, but their 70-8 will be a great boost to their confidence.
Scorpions to face Dewsbury at home in the Challenge Cup
South Wales Scorpions Rugby League Club have been drawn at home to Championship side Dewsbury Rams in the third round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup.
The game will be the Scorpions' first in rugby's oldest knockout cup competition and will be played at The Gnoll in Neath. The expected date and time is Sunday 6th March at 3pm but this is yet to be confirmed.
Dewsbury are one of Rugby League's oldest clubs. They won the League Championship Grand Final in 1973 and were led by now commentator Mike "Stevo" Stephenson and Welshman Greg Ashcroft, who went on to have an active involvement in local leagues in Wales, coaching both Blackwood Bulldogs and Valley Cougars in the past.
South Wales Scorpions can now confirm that the Carnegie Challenge Cup Third Round game against Dewsbury Rams will definitely be played on Sunday 6th March at The Gnoll in Neath with a 3pm kick-off.
This match will be the Scorpions' first in rugby's oldest and most famous knockout competition and with the Super League sides entering the fray in the Fourth Round, there is a lot to play for.
Season ticket holders from the Scorpions will gain free entry using the special ticket provided with the season ticket while Dewsbury season ticket holders need to present Special Voucher A at the turnstiles on the day at The Gnoll.
With this game being at home for the Scorpions, it means that 2011 season tickets are now better value than ever as fans can now enjoy 11 home games this year for just £80 starting with the Dewsbury tie. This is just £7.27 a game and is £52 or 40% off matchday prices for the season.
Concession season tickets are just £35 which is now £3.18 a game and is £42 or 55% off matchday prices for the season.
Admission prices for the Challenge Cup game for non season ticket holders on the door are £12 for adults and £7 for concessions and can be bought online here.
