Halifax 1917

The picture below is the Halifax team that played and lost (25-0) to the Royal Navy Depot at rugby union on 25/12/17.



The players are as follows:

Back row: W. Sherwood, ?, A. Milnes, H. Roberts, W. Metcalfe, ?, ?,
Middle row: B. Heyhurst (Physio)
Players - Cottam, ?, J. Beames, ?, E. Whitehouse, ?
Front row: J. Stacey, ?, F. Todd

7 players are not identified.
These players were:
E. Robertshaw, F. Noble, A. Pemberton, A. Holmes, T. Schofield, Mattock and F. Sutcliffe

Can anyone fill in the gaps?

CSRFC 1910/11



The only team noted as CSRFC by the RL in 1910 was Catherine Slack Rangers who headed the local league that year.

Can anyone fit a name(s) from the players noted below to the photo?

Well Tom Schofield first played for Fax in 1917 at the age of 15, but the ball in that photo looks round to me!

Tom first turned out in 1916, aged 15 years and 356 days in the 2nd row.

That suggests he's in the middle at the front, taking into account his likeness to the Schofield in the 1920/21 Challenge Cup runners up picture (page 66, Thrum Hall story)?

As for the round ball, that's because they'd have kicked the shape out it, this being a union match!

I have in my possession a large photograph for season 1911/12 / which clearly shows the team very smartly kit out with names etc,and shows the Bradford and district championship trophy in their possession.The photo was originally given as thanks to their sponsor.Most of these men I believe worked in the quarries at Swalesmoor.The field played on was opposite the now Cavendish garage,there used to be a pub adjacent at the time.A school now defunct was also built at Catherine slack.(most of the better educated queensbury scholars graduated from here !).I will attempt to download a copy of the Photo,may take some time as computers were not available at Catherine Slack School--only hammers and chissels).
