Skolars game report : Thu Mar 08, 2012 11:39 am
I wasn't going to do anything with the game, but then I thought why not. Going down to the Skolars I'm sure the faithful thought we only had to turn up to win, NOT.Don’t count your chickens
The Fax battle barge was moored on the wide fast flowing Hebbel River. The slaves were seated at their rowing benches with their oars pointing to the sky. Halifaxjohn was at the stern standing behind the giant anvil holding a massive hammer in each hand waiting for orders from the slave master. Mike Riley the slave master walked from the stern of the barge to the prow, eyeballing the rowers as he walked. His face changed into what could have been mistaken for a smile, but it looked like he’d been stabbed in the eye with a blade. The master walked back to the boarding plank as the Fax warriors boarded the barge. Croadie the blade nodded at Riley. Riley walked to the stern of the barge standing behind the timing anvil. He tapped Halifaxjohn on the back of the head with his battle Club. The time was right to cast off and head for the New River Stadium. The mooring ropes were cast off as the long journey began.
Halifaxjohn struck the anvil with the hammer in his left hand that started the long journey south. The sunlight flashed off the wet oars as the speed began to increase.
Two hours into the journey they past a Viking supporters long boat heading to Hull. In the bow could be seen a solitary supporter, could it be Viking man? Whoever it was they were singing, “If I could turn back time…..”
The Skolars were out on the field doing their ritual warming up. Arch Duke Rhino talking quietly to his assistant the Schemer Greenwood. “Let’s get our boys out there to give these London Skolars a lesson in Rugby League.”
The mighty Fax kicked off with a smart low grubber kick to the left flank. The Skolars forwards took up the challenge driving the ball back into Fax territory, but kicking the ball too hard that it went dead in goal. Penky took the tap handing on to Worrincy who in turn passed to Reittie.
Fax kick the ball but it was soon smothered by the Skolars defence.
The ball comes back to Fax with Crazy Dog Gannon driving the ball up the middle. Hard drives and tackles from both sets of combatants with neither defence cracking; until the thirtieth minute when Aggrey charged the line with Fax players hanging on to him. He twisted and turned and finally getting the ball down to open the score for the Skolars, to be converted by Skee.
London Skolars 6 v Halifax RLFC 0
Fax drive for the line with Robinson taking the ball to just short of the line. Reittie goes over in the left flank, but the final pass was judged to have gone forward.
Fax drive for the line again, with Ambler going over, the referee standing directly in front of the player was about to award a try when he caught sight of the touch judge, thirty yards away. After consultation the call is held up. Low and behold a touchie with eyes. The Gods will be smiling, not.
Half Time Skolars 6 v Fax 0
The Skolars kick off with a high ball that was easily collected by the Fax defence. Crazy Dog taking the ball down the middle and then taken on by the Beast Reittie.
Another drive by Fax sees Tomorrows man going over on the left flank, converted by himself.
Skolars 6 v Fax 6
The Skolars take the ball close to the Fax line and are rewarded with a penalty that was converted by Skee.
Skolars 8 v Fax 6
Heaton sin binned for a late tackle, Fax down to twelve men.
Skolars back on the charge with Adebisi the player coach driving for the line like a man possessed and gets his full reward with a good try.
Skolars 12 v Fax 6
Fax charging down the field with Fieldhouse going over close to the posts. The Fax faithful going into raptures of ecstasy, thinking with the coming conversion would bring them level. Oops, Mr Cobb says,”Double movement Penalty to Skolars”.
The Gods are having a good laugh at the expense of the mighty Fax.
A Skolars fan started to chant,”Skoooooolars, come on Yeeeee Skoooooolars”. This fan would be going to A&E to get a new voice box at the end of the game.
Once again the fax are held up over the line this time with Hesketh. Things not looking good for the mighty Fax as they are fast running out of time.
Thomas for the Skolars drive the ball up the middle, gaining easy yards with poor tackling from Fax.
“Skooooolaaars, Skoooolaaaars,” chant the locals.
Time running out!
Hand over to Fax.
At last the Fax are over in the corner with Tyrer, but he missed the conversion.
Skolars 12 v Fax 10
Fieldhouse collect the ball on his own ten yard line and charges down field to the Skolars twenty yard line.
A kick by Tiger to the right flank is collected by the Warrior who touches down in the corner, but the touchie with eyes said a Fax player was off-side.
Less than a minute left for the Fax to pull this out of the fire; not looking good. Skolars move the ball up field, then, knock on.
Seconds remaining, Fax held up again.
A short grubber kick into the goal area by Tiger is collected by the Beast Reittie to score. Tomorrows man converts the try to make the final score….
