'The Centurion' is the match day magazine of Leigh Centurions. CEO TREVOR BARTON heaps praise on our small squad and looks forward to the challenge confronting us on Sunday
Head Coach PAUL ROWLEY describes his pride at last Thursday’s terrific performance, but is fully on his guard about Sunday’s game when, taking into account the quality of the opposition, he realises things could so easily be different.
JOHN DUFFY bemoans getting injured on his comeback – by one of his so-called team mates! He too was delighted with Thursday’s performance, and takes time out to enthuse about the Under 18’s development squad, who he coaches, along with the same said team mate! He talks about the ‘bobby dazzler’ of the senior team – now there’s a phrase I’ve not heard for a long time – and admits that he has to use ‘Google’ now and again!
DAVE PARKINSON reports on the Halifax and Rochdale games, updates all his statistics once again, reports the tweets of fans and players and has a close look at Halifax’s Widnes connection. Once again, we apologise for leaving out the Fixtures and Results page, because of space limitations, dictated by the inclusion of a four page cover for sponsors Carnegie.
‘Love Rugby League’s’ JAMES GORDON pleads with the Game’s administrators, not to bow to pressure and change the format of the Challenge Cup, to protect the Championship clubs. (and Castleford, for that matter!)
We seem to be jinxed with opposing coaches lately, as Karl Harrison becomes the latest one to decline our invitation to contribute his thoughts. Anyway, that gives us the ideal opportunity to feature the club’s ‘Stars of Tomorrow’ – our Under 15/16’s Service Area Squad and the Under 18’s Development Squad, as they embark on their short campaigns. We hope to keep you updated on their progress, through their manager, DAVE PARKINSON – he gets everywhere that chap!
Director JOHN RODDY has news of the latest Commercial initiatives, and has exciting news about a new website for the Club – aimed at being Super league quality.
MAURICE JONES & WAYNE KEEGAN have captured all the best action from the Rochdale game and seem to focus heavily on Riddy’s new boots! (well, you can hardly miss them – and they’ve certainly impressed John Duffy!)
JOHN WILLIAMS updates us on Junior Centurions’ birthdays, publishes the winning entries in the writing and drawing competitions, (watch out for an uncanny likeness of Ant. Nicholson!) and updates us on the latest news and events.
ALAN EDGE is disgusted at the outcome of that Rangi Chase ‘challenge’, on the unfortunate Tangi Ropati. He also has part two, of the ‘French Farce’. In the editorial, he has obtained some second hand quotes from the ‘Fax coach, in the absence of any first hand ones! He also summarises 'Fax' s season so far.
We have omitted the CONFERENCE CALL feature this week, because of the need to include some new articles: -
There is a short blog about new Director, MIRANDA BARKER, a feature on ‘You’ll Never Watch Alone’, a message from the LSV Safety Officer, PAUL MCIVER, and the first of what will be a regular contribution from new Business Development Manager, RICHIE BLACKMORE. I definitely get the idea that he shares our feelings about Australians, and aims to plot their demise, from the humble backwater of Leigh!
Once again, there is the usual squad information, LISA, Lottery, Commercial and Touchdown news – and incredibly ‘The Centurion’ is still just £2.50.
Make sure to buy your copy good and early, so that you won’t be disappointed!
