To try and answer the queries above
The World Cup is an RFL tournement but Calderdale Council (owners of the Shay) have been asked to use the Shay Stadium as a venue. Consequently Halifax RLFC are "hosting" the game and will no doubt be running it from a practical point of view.
In terms of the Club both us and indeed FC Halifax will benefit from an improved Stadium, more toilets at the North end, repairs being made to the terracing and a new electronic scoreboard.
Regarding the Skircoat stand, you may have noticed that many seats are missing/broken so i think that the repairs to this area will be all about replacing that kind of thing.
Once the repairs are finished the ground capacity will be 10,000 not the 8000+ it is currently.
And the council are doing their very best to try and fill it for the Tonga Italy game. I believe that ALL local schools are likely to attend and there are various other initiatives to try and get a huge attendance.
Fom our perspective we won't be making money on the food/bars etc but the more the Council makes, the more the two Clubs benefit. The more monies the Council get to cover the running costs of the Stadium each year, the more likely it is that our rent will not go up
And Finally we all know just how the RFL think about Clubs outside of Super League, a full house here might just persuade them to rethink.
perhaps for example, they might play Challenge Cup semi finals here which once again will bring more money into the Council and reduce their dependancy on FC Halifax and Halifax RLFC as their only two major customers.
WE hope that fans of both codes might use this game to show that there are a lot of folks in Halifax who will turn out for a good sporting ocassion
Admittedly Tonga v Italy wont be the biggest game in thw World Cup but its still the World Cup here at the Shay!

I think we all should take note of this response,
And support at least the game at the Shay,
Just lets for once look at the positives, next season, a great season for our team, we will win at least one competition we will be hosting a World Cup game, that's a springboard for the future.
Surely the 2000 of us that go to the games know at least one friend they can bring along, if not to every Fax game but a World Cup game? That would make 3999 from us alone.
Come on lets show RFL that Rugby League in HALIFAX IS ALIVE AND WELL.
3999?
I haven't got a friend
