And Behold, a pale horse. And on his back his name was death.

The weekend starts on a Monday.

O'h for the good old days : Fri Jan 17, 2014 4:49 pm
http://www.halifaxrlfc.co.uk/news/artic ... h-punching

Blimey, sited for punching.
Some of us old timers remember when you could get done for "striking" but this was when the hooker "struck for the ball too early"
No one every got charged with punching, I was lucky enough to play in the same St. Mary's side as Richard Dunn, one game I particularly remember was against Hull Dockers, who had heard that Richard was a promising amateur boxer. They came with one intention. Richard and every one was in the thick of it, no backward steps, punching? the ref just laughed it off and came for a beer with us and the Dockers at The Irish Club after.

The cub organised a coach to watch him fight Jack Cotes in a return bout at Nottingham Ice Stadium, October 1969, winning by TKO in the third round.

Sadley I didn't see his fight against Ali.

He was a great family bloke.

Just a little history, no doubt the off thread persons will appear!

Just for you wipersnappers in those days the scrum half actually put the ball in the middle of the scrum not at the full backs feet.

Bet you were gutted that year Charlie

1904-05 - Leigh found guilty of a breach of the Working Clause. After beating Wigan in the First Round of the Northern Union Cup, The Northern Union Professional Sub-Committee ordered a replay. It had been alleged that Leigh player Silcock had been absent from work the week preceding the game. Without a permit, this was an offence. Wigan won the replay.

On second thoughts nothing changes, all of Leigh have been absent from work for a lot more than that!

Ooooh crikey i wouldn't know about that !

I remember having a strong running game in the conference against Beverley from Humberside up Greetland in red hot weather ( not my favoured conditions at all ) scoring one & setting up a couple more against a massive pack of forwards. Len Casey was witnessing the game as their coach for what turned out to be his first game with them. My ol' man introduced him to me in the bar after the game over a couple of pints. Mr Casey complimented me on the way i'd played & asked me what i thought of his huge pack of forwards that afternoon, so i told him as frankly, i thought they were a bit easy, he thanked me & told me they wouldn't be from that day onward haha.
The local derby games were my favourites actually though, Emmo & Leon will remember some of those clashes i'm sure. I actually get far more pleasure out of watching my two lads especially but also other lads who i've coached than i ever did out of playing RL, you tend not to appreciate it so much when you're playing i think. Jimmy Lowes was an interesting Q & A interviewee on saturday night at a Greetland fund-raiser actually, most of the fun times are actually away from the playing side of things, the cameraderie stuff i guess.

Be wise to arrange a friendley for sunday feb 2nd.
Both could serve bans and be available for Leigh

side out.
