"up and coming" ????? He's well over 40 years old now, up & coming, more-like in-experienced referee !!!!
It's not too many years ago i heard he was being "fast-tracked into SL", they retire 'em off at 50 years old for goodness sake.
Good luck to anyone who takes up any post within the game, i'm full of admiration, but in Bloemy's case, he's spread himself rather too thinly over the recent years with his radio work & coaching commitments to make a real go at hitting SL as a referee. What a story that would make though, the first SL player to turn referee then possibly coach at that level.
I hear on the grapevine the RFL want to go with two onfield refs next season, where they're gonna find the other six refs from i don't know, 'cos from what i've seen not too many in the Championship are good enough to make the step up. Coincidently, the NRL are talking of reverting back to one onfield ref.
