I helped clear the pitch of snow yesterday.
Once the top layer of snow had been cleared, there was a layer of ice all over the South Stand end of the pitch.
Underneath the ice, the pitch was already quite soft and soaked, with plenty of give underfoot.
We removed most of the snow to allow the game to be ok'd, but as the rest melted as the day went on, the ground would have only got wetter.
No surprise they've made an early call on the postponement, but long term, it will help the pitch recover.
Before the footy fans come on screaming about us damaging 'their' pitch, I'd just like to point out that if we hadn't cleared the snow, there would have been a huge amount of water left to soak into the ground and probably rule out the pitch for a whole lot longer.
We were asked to clear to a pre-determined line to get the game on yesterday, but actually cleared all the way to the half way line to help out the ground staff to help look after the pitch.
