How was it for you : Mon May 30, 2016 4:06 pm
The weekend I mean.Took us three and a half hours to get there.
Luckily the Sheffield, London game was delayed so I got in just in time for kick off.
In my humble opinion The game was poor, obviously it lacked atmosphere but the band of Eagles did try very hard to drum up enthusiasm. Credit to them quite a few of them had special T shirts printed with Taxi army emblazening the front.
There were a few cries of "cam on Landon" and that rather annoying drummer.
Again in my humble opinion Sheffield didn't do themselves justice, a poor kicking game from Chubbys lad but an old trademark try from Rob. End to end, however some of Landans tries were on his wing.
Purely out of interest Maurice on Leigh's board says we don't deserve a top four slot 'cause we "took the P" by not going full time. So far this year I think it's the Eagles who "took the P"
Whitehaven, Worky, a good game plenty of thrills and some big hits but still a lack of atmosphere.
A cracker, Leigh v Bulls. Both end full and plenty of noise, a bit of a see saw game.
I shifted from the South stand to the North so as not to have to sit with the Bulls.
Decided to do the Wigan walk when Bradford scored to take the lead with only a few minutes remaining.
Met my two sons and their friend at the "Albert and Lion" and informed them Bradford had won.
Refused to believe them until they showed me Leigh had scored in the last minute and won after all.
Quite a lot of Ciders, I had to catch them up as they had been drinking since three o'clock.
Couldn't keep pace with them and retired with my tail between my legs to our accomodation.
What a s-it heap it was, a bunk bed and a double bed in the one room with the bathroom shared by the 15 other rooms.
Trip adviser gave it two stars which I accept is not Hilton standard but we felt five t-rds would have been more appropriate.
Woken up at three am by loud fa-rating and cries of disbelief as friend clambered into the top bunk above me and sons Halifaxpaul and Halifax Stephen shared the double bed.
Sunday beautifull morning, up at eight and off to the "Velvet coaster" for breakfast copious coffees and met by the boys at ten.
Off to the ground, on my own!
Dewsbury v Batley, cracking game to an almost empty stadium, both teams played, in my humble opinion good rugby with some good forward displays. Thought Dewsbury were going to do it, and do us a favour but it was not to be, Batley nicked it.
Swinton Oldham, Swinton 20 nil down at half time, I remarked to a Faxfan "how on earth did we lose to this lot?" A disservice, Swinton came back to nick it.
At the risk of some unpleasant character telling me to "get my head out of Barlows A-se" for the time Josh was on he had an excellent game. Again a very empty stadium.
And then, magic, the ground began to fill up a little, the South stand was rocking, Fevs end not as full as ours, lightening struck Fev. An early lead, but hey, we've done that before then more points and more, half time texted Fevgrinder saying I'm still not confident, how many of us have seen us lose that lead before. But, me of little faith, a glorious second half, great display by the whole team.
Special thanks to young Craven for the fine display of juggling on their try line. Note Danny, your not supposed to drop the ball.
Also thanks to Thaks for kicking the ball all of 40 yards on at least two occasions, plenty of oomph there. Note Anthony it's supposed to bounce before it goes over the line.
Well done to every one involved on an after noon to remember, the team, the management and staff and us, the supporters particularly those of us who played stand up, sit down if you love the Fax under neath the South stand at the end of the game if, you weren't there doing it try finding it on social media.
A great weekend, met some good friends from Fev, Fevgrinder aka Dave, John from Fev Jonny Deps dopleganger, and Leigh, Charlie aka Ian and Frank, aka Frank.
And plenty of great Faxfans many I know many I don't. Well done to us all.
Didn't meet "The Enforcer" or at least I don't think I did, as I met no one who was rude and unpleasant.
Loved the weekend, however if we had lost?
As I say "how was it for you."
