Hi there, sorry I missed this when it came out, but here's a late bit of trivia: No. 588, Jim Holcroft, was my father: never actually signed for Fax, as he was still registered with Warrington under the name George Taylor, who had dropped him. A local paper reported that he had been signed from RU club Moseley, Warrington found out just before his 5th game, which was to have been against Warrington, and lodged a complaint, forcing him to return. This was, I think, the 46-47 or the 47-48 season. He eventually got away from the Wire and landed at Salford in 49-50 but was always proud of his four games at Thrum Hall.
