'Fax Supporters : Tue Jul 19, 2011 7:45 pm
Just to let you know that I received an email from one of your supporters, following Sunday's game. I have published the email, which was typical of so many 'Fax fans' postings, in Leigh's matchday programme for Sunday's game against Sheffield. Here is the feature that will appear in our programme: -CUP FINAL POST SCRIPT – By Alan Edge
Following Sunday’s dramatic NRC Final, I received the following email from Halifax fan, Richard Brewster. The content of the email is remarkable, coming as it did from a passionate ‘Fax supporter, who had just witnessed the last-gasp heartbreaking defeat of his team. What is even more remarkable is that Richard was not alone amongst ‘Fax fans, in expressing these sentiments. Here’s what Richard had to say: -
I think I speak for most of the Halifax fans, when I say ‘Congratulations and thank you’ to the Leigh supporters after last Sunday. Despite the unseasonal weather the party still went on, and the warm welcome that greeted us from arriving in Blackpool was heart warming. Whether it was someone saying ‘hello’ in the Coral Island arcade, simply because people in my party were wearing Fax shirts, or the people we enjoyed a drink with in Wetherspoons, the atmosphere was friendly and fun! Conditions probably hampered both teams’ games, but credit to Leigh for coming back in the second half and while it wasn’t the result we were wanting, it was still an enjoyable game. After the game, seeing Leigh fans applauding the ‘Fax coaches as they left is something I've never seen in any sport and was a great gesture. After some well documented unsavoury incidents at Featherstone in the semi final there was a worry in my mind that Sunday might not have gone along so smoothly, but the good natured atmosphere never gave the chance for any situation to develop. Leigh may have taken the cup home, but the real winner on Sunday was Rugby League. Good luck for the rest of the season, on and off the field. And I look forward to seeing many of you at The Shay again next season.
Richard Brewster
The views expressed by fans like Richard, merely confirm what many of us already know – that ‘Fax supporters are genuine Rugby League fans who contributed so much to a marvellous occasion. We, at The Centurion, applaud the supporters of Halifax RLFC.
