Ron Ryan Interview : Wed Mar 28, 2012 1:55 am
For those of you who remember back to the Aussie invasion in the mid 80's, Halifax secured the services of a young stand-off named Ron Ryan from Balmain Tigers. Ron immediately gelled with another young Aussie import, Mike Hagan making one of the most formidable half-back combinations in the old division 1. Ron possessed blistering speed and scored or set up many dazzling tries as Fax cemented their place in the top flight after a number of yo-yo seasions. My old Dad who watched Fax from the early 50's told me on many occassion that Ryan & Hagan were the best half-back partnership seen at Fax since Dean & Kielty.Anyway, I have managed to track down Ron here in Sydney and he has agreed to do an interview. His initial response was that he loved the Fax fans and even sent me an old pic of Thrum Hall which sticks in his memory. So now is your chance to delve into those old memories of the 84/85 season and post the questions you would like asking.
TS, please can you make this a sticky.
Oh, by the way, he has also offered to pass on the details of a couple of other players from that era who he stays in contact with so there could be a couple more follow-ups.
A pleasure, mate. TS
