Betts quoted on Sky Sports, when talking about fans' reaction to their "indifferent" start to the season:

"fans need to be patient with our rebuilding, remember we were playing the likes of Dewsbury, Batley and Keighley last year"

What he forgot to add was the Vikings got smashed every week by those clubs so fans should be used to losing!

And Keighley? Really?

No disrespect intended, but, if we had gone up, wouldn't our coach, who ever he would be be saying the same.
Let's concentrate on US, our League, and let sour bygones be sour bygones.

I'd like to think that no our coach wouldn't be saying exactly the same thing.
What Betts says is correct (apart from Keighley) but only in the sense that Widnes as a club were playing these teams. The current playing squad were not playing these teams, therefore the fans have every right to be upset. It's the job of the management to put a competitive squad together, right now it appears they are not even close.

I'm not as well informed as most, but, when Widnes got the nod, weren't most players already signed up for other clubs?
Perhaps we should judge them next year.

We could talk all night about the conspiracy theories over when Widnes were informed and who they had already made agreements with.
My main point is that the current team are not the ones who were playing Batley etc this time last year.
I'm not arguing with your point. It's a very valid one.

They got the nod in March of last year. So no they wouldnt have been.

Lets not also forget that Widnes had not been the best team in our division for some time but i suppose that any other team that went up in their stead would have also been smashed every week. It does appear disrespectful what he has allegedly said but i suspect that he was probably stating the gulf between super dooper land and the rest of the minions rather than having a direct go at certain clubs.

Widnes have the same problem in SL that they had in the CC, poor recruitment and coach. Their fans stated it would be different as they would have a higher salary cap in SL. But all they have done is sign rubbish but at a higher wage!. I have no doubt if Fax would have gone up (not that we deserved to) we would have signed better players. Our recruitment over the past few years compared to theirs has been much much better.

Seems Mr Betts has changed his tune from "we're not going into Super League to make up the numbers"

Were they ever the best team in our league? Remember they only ticked the box for the NR cup after Ben's dropped ball.
