For those who aren't aware, the under 18's re-birth commences on saturday at South Leeds stadium 2.30 KO.The squad have been training together for a couple of months now and combined with some of the lads from the under 23's squad who are still eligible to play U18's RL are predominantly Calderdale lads with a few from the Bradford & Dewsbury areas too.
Obviously it's difficult to guage the opposition squads until a couple of games in but from what I've seen there's some very good lads within the Fax squad, many of them returning to the club to work with Gonzales after the scholarship was ended almost two seasons ago, credit to both Martin & the Halifax club for seeking these lads out after their stints with SL clubs on leaving Halifax and indeed there are a couple of lads who've come into the squad who were previously with other clubs and this is their first opportunity at Halifax. The lads from Siddal who have already played U23's this season with Fax, several of them have even played for Lee Greenwood's senior Siddal team in the conference this last twelve months so there's no shortage of big game experience. I know Martin & Jim Gannon will have intentions of pushing some of these lads through the system into the 23's & hopefully into the senior squad in future years so it's interesting times ahead for these young men.
I'll be going over to Hunslet to watch on saturday & I understand there may be a slight entrance fee. And I understand the supporters trust are again playing a massive role with their fund-raising efforts to help float this team.
