I've felt pretty solid about Halifax's position all season but now Leigh come in from nowhere and take second. They've won their last six matches and are hitting form at the right time which has now opened the floodgates for their gobby fans.
So, feeling a bit deflated after tonight, however ................
I still think we can do it. We've shown how ruthless we can be in the NRC final. We have to be ruthless again in our final round of matches otherwise confidence is going to wane. It is a great league and i still think we're a bigger prospect than Leigh (1,400 there tonight). We just have to get some consistency. It's great that we've got the squad signed up for next year and whilst Leigh are praying that Brierley stays (not a chance) we have our lads signed up and ready for 2013.
We've won one comp this year. We can win the other.
Not exactly 'come from nowhere' rich. We've been a game behind for months - this one tonight was the re-arranged Round 7 game. And, being pedantic, there were 1597 there - for a re-arranged Thursday game, which isn't that bad.
Nevertheless, I take your point - although Fev are 'nailed on' to finish top, theoretically either Leigh or 'Fax could still win it. Equally, either of us could still finish second, as could Batley.
And what does all that prove? Well, anything could happen in the play-offs! You might have beaten Fev twice, and we might have beaten you three times, and Fev might have beaten us three times, and Batley might have beaten you once (twice?!), but come the play-offs, it all counts for nowt!
Like you say - a great league!!
See you soon, no doubt.
