He's a very decent half-back, and some of what he does goes unseen if you're not looking. Sometimes his kicking let's him down, and he needs to find the knack of making sure the ball hits the ground more often rather than down the throat of the opposition. The odd attempt at a 40-20 (a la Bob Beswick) wouldn't go amiss either. Wish he'd take on the line a little more often as well - when he gets into this mindset, he's shown that he's very capable, so a little frustrating that he doesn't trust his ability more often!
The key thing for me though, is that the two half-backs don't yet seem to have sorted themselves out as a partnership. If Thacks and Handforth could really gel together (they have very different skills) then they could be truly awesome in this division as a pair - much more than the sum of each of them individually.
