Where the Sky money will go. : Tue Feb 04, 2014 3:46 pm
Don't shoot the messenger but here is what this weeks RL press says about the new 5 year Sky deal money allocation.

Littlerich and Griff, get your calculators out.

Quote.

"The five year deal breaks down as follows.

The amount being paid for club and International matches will be £182,200,000.

Of that total £146,760,000, or 80% will go to Super League clubs.

£14,576,000 or 8%, will go to the twelve Championship clubs in the second tier.

£1,822,000, or 1% will go to the Championship One clubs.

£20.042,000 or 11%, will be paid for the Challenge Cup and International coverage.

For that Sky will broadcast 71 Super League games per season, 17 Championship games, 1 Championship one game and 11 Challenge Cup games.

Sky will also pay another £17,800,000 during the course of the contract and that money will be paid for coaching and the clubs charitable foundations, with the first payment of £100,000 per club being made in July.

Under the terms of the new contract the annual payment to Super League clubs will rise to £1,825,000 per club, which will just about cover the salary cap.

For the Championship clubs from 2015 the two clubs relegated from Super League will receive £788,000 and £787,000 respectively.

The clubs that finish first and second in the Championship will receive £550,000 and £500,000 in 2015.

Clubs 3 to 12 will then be on a sliding scale of income from £200,000 to £150,000.

It will be a tough job for any of those clubs to get into the top four in 2015.

The Championship One clubs will each receive £75,000.

It's a brand new world and it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds."

End quote.

Not if you don't finish in the Top 2 of the Championship.

I can see us been a bit set adrift after this year. i really cant see us making the top 2, i think Fev and Sheffield are just about nailed on and leaves us and leigh having to make up £300K shortfall to try and compete to get in to tier 2 of SL in 2015. Our only hope is that London go in to freefall after their relegation and that gives ourselves and Leigh an opportunity to grab their spot.

It would be if it were true but there is one extra nought on the figures which distorts the true figures of course although I know where the poster is coming from.

Greg FB' I think you should wait for a bit longer in this coming season before making a prediction on which club will finish where.

Not telling you off Greg just pointing out in a polite way how you are not Gypsy Petrulengo and' how smart I am although I never mention it.

Obviously there's a funding gap BUT if anyone outside SL is thinking of "investing" or buying into the game then at least they are being met half way by the RFL/Sky. £550k is better than cack all.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity

Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Certainly livens things up a bit, just hope it doesnt take the eye of the ball for club owners, ultimatly building your own income steams is still the only guaranteed way to long term success

It looks better than what I believe the Championship clubs get now so reasonably happy with that plus the carrot for ambitious clubs as well as a parachute payment for relegated clubs which should work.

Where on earth do you conclude what the club is going to spend? Have you got nothing better to read on your own site?

That doesn't add up, 12 x £1.825m is £21.9m pa or £109.5m over the 5 years :?
