What do you mean? It was very much a case of the opposite.
No point covering old ground but the only reason why Beswick isn't still at Widnes is because last year we desperately needed the 'stars' of the squad to take games by the scruff of the neck and be a shinning example to the younger players or players like Lee Paterson or Tim Hartley who don't have such a lofty reputation. What happened though was that week after week Beswick's performances were average and although he wasn't awful, he just wasn't worth the money to keep on.
At the end of the day, I think Beswick's move to Halifax was the best thing all round. Beswick probably needed the kick up the bum and Widnes needed players who would make the difference in games. No doubt Beswick will have a stormer against us, he's certainly capable of it, but had Beswick stayed at Widnes, what would have been the chances that he would have had a stormer against Halifax? Very slim IMO.
Well i recall him being your best player in the playoff game against us last season. Isnt the only reson he isnt at Widnes this season because he turned down their contract offer. Think Ste Mccormack is also on record as saying he was the only member of last seasons squad that left that he wanted to keep.
The thing that has most impressed me about Beswick is that he does the simple, fundamental things of RL exceptionally well. I can't recall him giving one bad pass, missing a tackle, dropping a ball, faling to make yards.
Once he gets into his stride and fully gets used to his teammates I think he will be a sensation this year. I do fully believe 13 is his best position. He is a great hooker but Penky and Gleeson are too good to be switched elsewhere.
